Robert Kubis Obituary

Kubis, Robert "Bob"

Robert "Bob" Kubis, 85, of Greensboro, NC, passed away on June 27, 2022.

Bob was born May 13, 1937, to Helen and Emil Kubis in Milwaukee, WI. He enthusiastically participated in choir and as an altar attendant in his beloved Catholic Church as a child. As a teen, he was a standout wrestler earning state honors at Messmer Catholic High School. In 1964, with friends at a favorite Milwaukee restaurant, Bob met the love of his life, Charlotte "Ann" Morton. Her inner strength was as obvious as her outer beauty. It was the perfect match and they fell madly in love. Only 10 weeks after beginning to date, Bob proposed to Ann and on September 25, 1965, they were married. Bob wore the watch she gave him as a wedding gift from that day forward - just one small window into his dedication and love for her.

Soon after marriage, 3 sons followed, Patrick-1967, Jeff-1968, and Gregg-1970. With the family growing, Bob accepted a position as Branovan's safety shoe sales rep in northern Wisconsin. He quickly became a top salesman and developed many mentors and friends within the industry. In late 1979, those friends and mentors offered him and Ann the opportunity to open a new safety shoe business as the Hytest tributor in North Carolina.

Bob and Ann moved the family to Greensboro, NC in March 1980 and founded Saf-Gard Safety Shoe Company. If you ever met Bob, you'd notice first his huge smile and you'd hear his booming voice coming from a hundred yards away. But if you knew him longer, you'd most appreciate his determination, loyalty, and deep concern for others. Those core characteristics drove both his business and his friendships. One long-time Saf-Gard team member shared:

"Bob taught me that compassion, a good sense of humor, and truly caring about others is the backbone to good customer service. Bob and Ann taught me that love for family was above all else and I was blessed as I was treated as family. Also… a pot of strong coffee will get you through the day."

We are thankful for his love and the values he shared with all of us who are much better today because of his life.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Charlotte (Ann) Morton Kubis.

Survivors include his sisters, Irene Kubis and Elaine Kubis Larsen (Richard), his sons, Patrick Kubis (Stacey), Jeff Kubis (Diana), and Gregg Kubis (Christy), and grandchildren, Chase, Katherine, Chad, Kendall, Audrey, Connor, and Gracie Kubis.

An 11 a.m. memorial service will be held Thursday, July 21, 2022, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2715 Horse Pen Creek Road, Greensboro, NC, with a celebration of life reception to follow immediately afterwards on 1904 Red Forest Road, Greensboro, NC.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Cancer Research Institute, 29 Broadway, Floor 4, New York, NY, 10006-3111 or Special Olympics, Attn: Web Gifts, 1133 19th Street NW, 12th Floor, Washington, DC, 200363604.

Thinking of you, Bob on this third anniversary of your going to be with Ann in Heaven.
Now that you have been joined by Mr. Parr, I know Ann has her hands full there.
I have been so blessed to be an employee and friend to the Kubis clan.
My work ethic was 100% instilled by Ann.
I will stop by and visit you guys soon at the church.

Pat, Jeff, & Gregg,
I am so sorry and saddened for the loss of your father, he was great man. I had the honor of meeting and working with him on several occasions in his Richmond store. He made working so much fun and at the same time was teaching us valuable lessons to carry with us at work and outside of work. He is in heaven with his beloved family that has gone before him but he will never be forgotten here on earth as we know he left his many memories behind for us to remember. My prayers are with all of you and your families at this time.

I didn't have the privilege of knowing Bob or Ann but know they are great caring and compassionate people by the way they treated and took care of my sister Becky when my Nephew Brandon got sick and eventually moved to heaven, where i am sure he is thanking them and charming him with his smile and great personality! My thoughts and prayers go out to all the Kubis family during your time of loss. Because someone you love is in Heaven there is always a little bit of heaven in your heart!

Jeff, Pat & Gregg, so sorry to hear the news of your dad's passing. The description of the booming voice and big smile is exactly how I remember him. I also remember how we used to all pile in to his work van and he would drive the lot of us to the local Haunted Houses and then back home after our fill of scares. Good memories. Glad you all chose our neighborhood to move to - you were great to grow up with. Wishing you much peace, support and prayers during this time.

I have so many great memories of Bob and Ann.
Knowing them has changed my life. They shared so many life skills with me over the years that have enhanced my life.
I know they are smiling down, so proud of all their sons have accomplished and the men they have become.
Love you Bob and Ann
Thank you!
