August 20, 1936 - December 12, 2024
Shirley Benton DeLuca 88 of Catskill, NY and Greensboro, NC entered eternal rest on December 12. 2024 at Columbia Memorial Health Center. She was most recently a resident of the Firefighter's Home in Hudson, NY where she resided with her husband of 69 years Robert DeLuca.
Born in Port Ewen NY, she was the 12th of thirteen children and when she was young her family moved to Catskill. In 1955 Bob and Shirley were married at St. Patrick's Church in Catskill and began a journey of love and commitment that lasted more than 69 years.
Once they began to have children her primary job became Mom. Shirley was the ultimate Kool-Aid Mom of the 60's her house was the place that all the neighborhood kids came to play and hang out. In 1982 Bob and Shirley moved to Greensboro, NC. Once again Shirley returned to the school system to work with children, this time as a Teaching Assistant. She eventually retired from the Guilford County School System.
Shirley was pre-deceased by her Father Charles Benton, Mother Lilian Benton and eleven brothers and sisters. Myron Benton, Chauncey Benton, Alvin Benton, Charlotte Davis, Floyd Benton, Grace Starmer Robert Benton, Leslie Benton, Charles Benton John Benton, and Ellen Starmer.
In addition to husband Robert, she is survived by her sister Janet Thorne of Catskill, sons Gerald (Cathy) of Ravena NY, Joseph (Sarah) 0f McLeansville N C, Michael (Shanell) of Shelby NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. With twelve brothers and sisters she is also survived by too many nieces and nephews to count.
Services will be held on January 7, 2025, in the Chapel at the Firefighter's Home. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. followed by a celebration of life. Interment will take place at St. Paul the Apostle in Greensboro, NC at a time convenient to the family.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate in Shirley's name to the Firefighters Home 125 Harry Howard Blvd. Hudson, NY 12534.

Shirley DeLuca was a joy to know. She and Bob were close friends of my parents Loretta and Joe Tracey. She was always happy to see us and had a kind word for all. I´m sorry for your loss and may Shirley rest in God´s eternal peace. We´ll miss her smile. Sincerely The Tracey Family
