Steven Sinkhorn Obituary

Steven "Stacy" Lawrence Sinkhorn

November 13, 1956 - July 23, 2024

Steven (Stacy) Lawrence Sinkhorn, 67, passed away at his home July 23, 2024, after a long, hard battle with cancer with his loving wife, Chris, right by his side.

Stacy was a very kind, gentle, giving man who adored his wife and loved his family and friends. His greatest joy was fishing whether on his fishing boat or at the shoreline you could always find a smile on his face while fishing.

He was a 1975 graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio, where he was raised. He then went onto THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY where he was a walk on for the football team. He had a lifelong love of sports and the Buckeyes. Often, on the phone, instead of a normal hello he would answer Go Bucks!

Stacy moved from Ohio to Greensboro, NC where he started working for Piedmont Natural Gas Company until early retirement. His love of sports took him into coaching and playing softball many nights a week. He was very involved with the NC Special Olympics starting as a softball and basketball coach in 1984. He was chosen as one of the special Olympic Team USA-NC softball coaches which was one of his proudest moments. He was also a very active member of the Greensboro Civitan club where he made many friends over the years.

Stacy was preceded in death by his father, Warren "Bud" Sinkhorn: also, his father and mother-in-law, Tom and Lolly Burgin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Christine (Burgin); mother, Evelyn Sinkhorn; brother, Jim (Terese) Sinkhorn; nephews, Luke (Kristy) Sinkhorn, Jess (Camille) Sinkhorn; and niece, Moriah Sinkhorn (Jimmie Elf). Stacy also had many cousins and will be missed most by his cousins, Kathy (Drew) Raybuck and Joshua (Jessica) Sturm as well as his many, many friends.

Upon marrying Chris, he also found a loving family with the Burgins. Chris's three sisters, Gail (Phil) Schoch, Lauri (Charlie) Bougas, and Amy (Luke) Walsh; along with their children held a very special place in his heart.

A celebration of Stacy's life will take place Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 12 p.m. in the chapel at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home 5926 W Friendly Ave. Greensboro NC. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers Stacy requested donations, in his memory, to either the Greensboro Civitan Foundation Inc. 401 Trillium Lane Greensboro, NC 27410 OR the NC Special Olympics 2200 Gateway Centre Blvd. Suite 201 Morrisville, NC 27560.

Was sorry to hear of Stacey´s passing. We were both members of the Hoban class of `75, and spent a lot of time together on the football field; Stacey at center, me at left guard. My condolences to his family.
