TERESA PHILLIPS NEWTON GREENSBORO Teresa Phillips Newton of Greensboro went to be with Christ after her battle with cancer on Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Teresa was the daughter of Garland and Peggy Phillips, and the wife of Brian Newton. She was a 1977 graduate of Dudley High School, and also graduated Summa Cum Laude from NCA&T in 1994 with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education. Teresa worked as an elementary school teacher for 31 years teaching kids to learn to read. She was also a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE). Teresa was preceded in death by her sister Patti Phillips. She is survived by: brothers Butch, Brent, and Dennis Phillips; son Zeb Newton and his wife Liz; nephews and nieces Adam and Ryan Burton, and Heather and Sammi Phillips; and a host of great-nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws. The family will receive friends at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014; with service to follow from 7:45-8:45 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.forbisanddick.com. Instead of flowers the family is requesting donations be made specifically to the Teresa Newton Book Fund at Southmont Elementary School, 2497 Southmont Drive, Asheboro, NC 27205, Att: Penny Baber (336-625-1558).
