Age 54, at Georgetown University Hopsital, Washington D.C., December 26, 2001 from complications due to a liver transplant. Survived by loving wife Marilyn, daughter Jennifer and her husband Jack Bishop, son Matthew and his partner Mary Boolootian, grandchildren Thomas, Marilyn Anne and Jon. Also survived by brother Dennis and his wife Ginger, sisters Joanne Fazzio, Jeanne Morey and her husband Jim, mother-in-law Elda DeMarco, aunt Stella Campbell, niece Emily Morey and nephews Walt Morey, Michael and Jeff Vollman. Preceded in death by his parents Edward and Ruth Vollman. Tom was born and raised in Sacramento, attended Sacramento High School, and graduated from the University of California at Davis with his doctorate in Mathematics. He taught at the College of the Virgin Islands for several years and then settled in southern Maryland at Saint Mary's College of Maryland where he became Department Chairman of Mathematics and Computer Science. Tom was a member of the US-SC7 Tag and a Convener to ISO/IEC, having been instrumental in the development and implementation of worldwide software standards. Tom started his own software engineering firm, Technical Consulting, Inc., focusing on flight safety and warfare training systems. He was fortunate enough that his success in business with international projects allowed him to travel all over the world, which he enjoyed dearly. Due to his expertise in his field, Tom received numerous awards and honors, yet his greatest accomplishments were as a husband, father and grandfather. Some of Tom's favorite activities included: sailing, scuba diving and traveling abroad. A memorial service will be held for Dr. Vollman at Saint Mary's College of Maryland in St. Mary's City, Maryland on January 4, 2002. Remembrances may be made in his name to your favorite charity.
