EDEN WAYNE GATEWOOD, 76, OF 719 CARRINGTON LANE in Eden, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, March 12, 2015 at his home.A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery. The Rockingham County Veteran's Honor Guard and US Navy will perform military rites.Mr. Gatewood was born March 20, 1938 in Rockingham County, NC to the late Raymond B. and Lessie King Gatewood. He was a US Navy veteran and a member of First Wesleyan Church in Eden. Wayne retired from Fieldcrest Mills.He is survived by his wife of 56½years, Betty Frith Gatewood, of the home; two daughters, Carolyn Gatewood McCrary and husband, Dennis of Lenoir, and Tammy Gatewood Evans and husband, Brandon, of Eden; son, Irvin Wayne Gatewood of Lenoir; grandchildren, Shanna Rogers of Denver, NC, Kenny Kirkman, II, of Eden, Andrew Kirkman and Tiffany Paine of Eden, Summer McCrary Ritchie and husband, Chase of Lenoir, Daniel Evans and wife, Tiffany of Eden, Savannah Gatewood of Lynchburg, VA, and Chad McCrary of Lenoir; great-grandchildren, Justin Fuller of Fort Sill, OK, Rylei Ritchie of Lenoir, Peightym Ritchie of Lenoir, and Ethan Evans of Eden; and sisters, Nancy Gatewood Bibey and Shirley Gatewood Edwards.
