Zane Parker Obituary

Zane Grey Parker of Greensboro, NC, age 93, died at home on Oct. 23, 2025.

Zane was born to Newman and Laura Parker in April of 1932 at the height of the Great Depression in Blairsville, GA, one of 8 children. He is survived by his wife of 69 yrs. Charlotte Parker, his son Gregory Parker, daughter Jacqueline Parker Hatch, son-in-law Rick Hatch, sisters Jane Collins, Jean Kendall, and brother Bill Parker. He is preceded in death by his son Joseph Parker, brothers Jack, Earl, and Ray Parker, and his beloved sister Barbara Coldwell.

Zane enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 shortly after high school, underwent basic training in San Antonio, TX after which he had numerous posts, including a two year stint in Frankfurt, Germany where he served as a flight engineer, igniting his passion for aviation, a passion that would follow him throughout his career.

After being honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1955, Zane returned to Young Harris College in Blairsville, GA, then to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in FL, where he obtained both his A&P and commercial pilot license. After several employers, he eventually landed at Burlington Industries, based in Greensboro, NC, where he worked with distinction for over 30 yrs., retiring as chief pilot in 1995.

While he enjoyed many pursuits, he was particularly passionate about flying jets, golf, upland bird hunting, Brittany Spaniels, daily dog walks, overcooked food, trout fishing, and his country farm in Floyd County, VA.

A man of God, unusually high principles, and admirable discipline, his easy smile and sound wisdom will be missed by many.

A celebration of life will be held at Bur-Mil Park, 5834 Bur-Mill Club Rd., Greensboro, NC on Nov. 13th from 4-6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in his memory to ALS United NC.

Charlotte, sorry I am flying to New York that morning to see Brooke, Robin´s daughter. Ticket´s bought already. I will miss Zane walking his dog. He was always so "spry". Billy would have missed your dinners together.

Yesterday

We had the very good fortune to move in next door to Charlotte and Zane in 2004. We lived next to them for 12 years and Zane was such an incredible presence in our lives. Our kids adored Zane and couldn´t wait to pepper him with questions any time he happened to be outside when they were. One night a bat got in our house when I was home alone and Zane came over to rescue me, well really the bat. :) Zane lived an amazing life and certainly left an impression on our family. He will be deeply missed.
