Zora D. Bunin, 90, passed away May 3, 2024.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 5, 11 a.m. at Beth David Synagogue. Burial will follow at the Hebrew Cemetery in Greensboro, NC.

Zora was born November 18, 1933, to Elizabeth and Samuel Daniel in Durham, NC. Her twin sister, Sonia followed her just 5 minutes later. She lived in Durham most of her young life. Zora was educated in Durham and always knew she wanted to be a teacher. She went to Women's College of the UNC system and graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in secondary education. Afterwards, she taught seventh to ninth grade in Charlotte, NC. She won many art awards and was fortunate to study with Daniel Green Pastelis. As an active portrait artist of animals and people, she created Zora's Zoo (R) in 1972 which included a collection of animal characters. Zora lived in Winston Salem and Greensboro before moving to Jamestown, NC in 2000. She taught for 37 years at the Spears YMCA as instructor for an arthritis water class and enjoyed working with all the adults.

Zora married Herbert M Bunin in 1958 and they were together 43 years until his passing. They had 2 wonderful children, Lenni Elizabeth Bunin and Samuel Philip Bunin.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Herbert; son, Sam; and brother Gerald.

Special thanks was expressed by Zora to "all my physicians, especially Dr. South and all the others that took great care of me."

She leaves a loving daughter, Lenni and her wonderful husband Ali Hassani of Decatur, GA, whom she considered "more son than son in law." She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Sonia Strauss of Fairfield, CT, as well as many wonderful friends.
