Arthur Talmadge Mason, 87, of Mauldin, husband of the late Ruth Thompson Mason, died September 9, 2013

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Arthur Herbert and Nora Leatherwood Mason.

Arthur served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired supervisor from the J.E. Sirrine Company.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a former Deacon and children's Sunday school teacher.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy McGill and her husband, Dal, of Simpsonville; three grandchildren, Robbie McGill and his wife, Lisa, of Greer, Kelly Gibby and her husband, Ross, of Simpsonville, and Christopher McGill of Simpsonville; three great grandchildren, Hannah McGill, Makayla Gibby and Landon Gibby; and his sister, Myrtie Gillespie of Greenville.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by three siblings.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Southeast, with visitation prior to the service from 1:30 - 2:45 p.m.

Burial will follow the service at Graceland East Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church - Building Fund, 509 South Main Street, Mauldin, SC 29662.

The family will be at the residence.

I AM SORRY I COIULD NOT ATTEND THE MEMORIAL FOR MY OLD BOYHOOD BUDDY "LARD" MASON BUT WEHAD FAMILY SICKNESS --I SPOKE TO HIM RECENTLY AND RENEWED OLD TIMES HE AND I HAD THE BEST TIME AS BOYS I HAVE WRITTEN A BOOK WHICH WILL BE PUBLISHED SOON "THE VILLAGE AND BEYOND" BY WILLIAM HALE ---LARD IS IN THE BOOK SEVERAL TIMES--- BOTH MY WIFE AND I TELL LARD STORIES OFTEN SHE NEW HIM AT PARKER HIGH SCHOOL PEACEVTO ALL OF YOU
