Austin Taylor Rackley, 21, of Greenville died Sunday, May 14, 2017.

His love of life, soccer, fishing, hunting, the lake and everything he did was evident by all that knew and loved him. Austin just completed his junior year at the Citadel in November. He will be missed more than he will ever know. We love you Buddy.

My heart goes out to your family at this time. My son is in Sierra company and a junior also and said he knew Austin and really liked him. I cannot imagine your grief. Please know you will continue to be in our prayers. Sending lots of loving thoughts and prayers.

To the parents of Austin - I did not know your son, but I can honestly say I know how you feel. My son, Gregory Forrest Pope, also a Citadel cadet, was killed in a car accident on the way home for Thanksgiving in 2003. I know that Austin was an amazing young man....he was your son. I am so very sorry. I would love to talk with you at anytime you feel that you can. You could msg me on Facebook, or call me at 919-920-8381. You are on my heart. God bless you.

Tony I am so sorry for the loss of your son. It has been quite a while since I have seen you but you were a very nice young man. I know that your mother and sister will help you get through this along with the Good man upstairs. Please take care and I hope I will see someday soon.

Our family loved Austin. He was a special friend to Max and Emily, and we really enjoyed having him around our house.

Tony, you raised a fine young man. He was polite, kind, funny, and thoughtful. A real good soul.

He will remain with us every day because of how he enriched our lives.

Godspeed, Austin.

This is tragic news of a well loved 'brother' in November Company at The Citadel, where he was part of a proud, honorable legacy of Christ Church men. Austin earned his own respect there and had just finished his junior year. We cannot explain such a great loss to our world but we know Austin has earned his Christian eternal rest. I send Austin's beloved father our deepest sympathy on this unfathomable loss. Rest In Peace, my brother. You will be missed.

Thinking of you, Tony. Our hearts break at the loss of your precious boy. I've had a soft spot in my heart for him for several years now, and this is a crushing blow...but I know it is nothing in comparison to what you are experiencing right now. We are so proud of his accomplishments at the Citadel. You raised a fine young man who will be sorely missed. Keeping you in our hearts and prayers Angi, Howie, and Meg

I am deeply saddened to learn of Austin's death. He was a delightful young man. I got to know him the last two years through his involvement in intramural athletics at The Citadel. He was an excellent athlete, gifted soccer player and a fine young man. He will be missed by many friends here at The Citadel; students, faculty and staff. May God be with all of Austin's family and friends during this time of great sorrow.

Austin was a student in my 101 and 111 classes. As a junior in the 111 course, he provided a more mature outlook. I could count on Austin to be and act real as we shared ethical dilemmas. The other students really admired him. I'm reminded of these Justin Moore lyrics: "My roots are buried deep here in this little town / And one of these days it's where they'll put me in the ground." Rest in peace, Austin.

Spending summer nights with him on the lake and by the fire are truly memories I'll never forget. He truly just wanted love and companionship, for someone to be there for him, as he was for everyone else. I'll always miss his devoted friendship and will always remember the chuckles that he would bring to anyone's day. Love you beyond words Rackley, you're finally spending mother's day with your mamma and the man upstairs.

Our family is devastated by this profound loss of such a fine, upstanding young man - well loved at The Citadel and at Christ Church Episcopal School. Our son thought the world of him and his great promise. They were 'brothers' in November Company at The Citadel and at CCES. We pray for strength for this family and his many friends. His life was tragically short but meaningful and significant. We will not forget him.
