Catherine Owings Obituary

Catherine Agnes Hullender Owings, age 83, of Lake Wylie, S.C. died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003.

Born in Laurens, S.C., she was the daughter of Maude Martin Lindsey and the stepdaughter of Jesse B. Lindsey, and a graduate of Parker High School.

She and her late husband, James W. Owings, were owners of Owings Plaza Jewelers for over 40 years.

In recent years, she was a resident of Westminster Place in Greenville, and Lake Wylie Assisted Living in Lake Wylie, S.C.

She and her husband were members of Augusta Road Baptist Church, where they were faithful choir members for many years.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law Janice and Billy M. Haywood II, Charlotte, N.C.; son-in-law James C. Gill, Jr., Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Jennifer Gill Price and Melissa Gill Starker and husband Chris, all of Greenville, and great-grandson, Cameron Gill of Columbia.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Sandra Owings Gill.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 6, at 11 a.m. at Augusta Road Baptist Church with Dr. Marion Hare officiating.

Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Augusta Road Baptist Church, 1823 Augusta Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. - The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive.
