Craig Snider Obituary

Craig Stephen Snider

Easley

- Craig Stephen Snider was born into this life Aug. 18th, 1951 and passed into the next Oct. 31st, 2019.

Craig was a lifelong resident of Easley, SC. He attended East End Elementary and graduated from Easley High School's class of 1969. As a boy and young man, he enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of his free time camping with family and friends along the Blue Ridge Parkway and at Table Rock State Park-SC.

Despite a lifelong affliction with epilepsy, he began work at the early age of 10; taking a paper route with the Greenville Piedmont. He later worked with family at the local concrete company before attending several colleges throughout the Carolinas and Georgia. After returning home, he married Patricia Stapleton Snider in 1977. They had one son, Ian McAfee Snider, now of Zionville, NC. As a father, Craig was very involved in Boy Scouts, little league baseball, church basketball, and eventually supporting his son's college education. After 39 years of marriage, Pat and Craig divorced in 2016. Upon retiring from over 25 years of service with the Greenville Health System, he found himself once again drawn to the mountains and a second chance at life. He found that in spades when he met Judy Marie Shomaker of Banner Elk, NC. The couple enjoyed dancing, travel, waterfalls, college ministry, and were talking of marriage.

Craig was attempting to revamp an old wood carving business and consolidate his real estate holdings when he died suddenly at the age of 68. He was a friend to all who knew him and is proceeded in death by his sister Cindy Snider Hartley, his mother Lorraine Jones Snider, and his father, and WWII Bronze Star recipient, PFC David McAfee Snider; all of Easley, SC.

In addition to his son, he is survived by his daughter-in-law Kelly Sheets Snider, his granddaughter Fina Mae Snider, and his grandson Oakley Thomson Snider; all of Zionville, NC.

A Foothills memorial service will be held Sunday Nov. 10th at 3PM in the courtyard of First Methodist Church in Easley, SC. A High Country memorial service will be held at 3PM Sunday Nov. 17th at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Banner Elk, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Craig's honor to The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, Table Rock State Park-SC, Mount Jefferson State Park-NC, First United Methodist Church Easley-SC, and/or The College Ministry of Mount Calvary Baptist Church-NC.

Craig Snider will always be remembered by me as a kind, caring, loving, compassionate Man. He was a true Southern gentleman. Though I only knew Him for two years, I felt I'd known him for a lifetime. I will miss his enthusiasm for traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway, National and State Parks, Hiking, Biking, Waterfalls, Dancing, Beach trips, Fine Music and Art,and His Sports teams...Clemson, Appalachian State, and Lees McRae College. Most of all I will miss his constant encouragement, his desire to be a help in all ways, and his deep intentional and unconditional love. My heart is so sad but I am not without Hope of seeing Him again in Heaven for "nothing can separate us from the love of Christ."
Romans 8:37-38

Craig Snider was a light to many through His kindness, gentle spirit, patience, positive outlook, and most of all his demonstration of love. He certainly lit up my life for the past two years and I will never forget Him. May that light continue to shine in all of us whose life you touched. I love and Miss you Craig.

I just learned of Mr. Snider's passing this evening. I attended Elementary School through High School, and was friends with his son Ian. I was often around Mr. Snider during Church Basketball and remember bumping into him from time to time around town. He was always a kind man and it stuck out to me how he made an intentional effort to have a conversation with me and whoever I was around. I'll never forget that. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing, but will praise the Lord knowing that His soul is now in the presence of his Creator. To Ian, and Mr. Snider's family and close friends, I will continue to keep you in my prayers and you will all be heavy on my heart in the days to come.
