Elizabeth Ryan Obituary

Elizabeth Harris Shaw Ryan, formerly of Westminster Drive, died Thursday, October 16, 2008.

Born in Leon, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late John Clay and Maggie Ironside Harris.

Mrs. Ryan worked for Household Finance Corp. in Des Moines, Chicago and Los Angeles before moving to Greenville. She then worked with Ramseur Roofing until 1954.

For 52 years she taught ballroom dancing, 47 of which were at the YWCA on Augusta until moving to the Senior Action Center, where the Lib Ryan Dance Club was started.
She was a member of First Baptist Greenville. She also was a member of the Greenville Women's Club and Augusta Road Community Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley K. Ryan; and her son, Richard Clayton Shaw, Sr.

Surviving are her grandchildren, Sandra Shaw and Clay Shaw, both of Greenville; and her nephew, James Harris, also of Greenville.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 10-11 a.m. in the Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Greenville, Building Fund, 847 Cleveland Street, Greenville, SC 29601.

The family will be at the home of Harriet Nubson, 112 Westminster Drive.
