Gaylord Lehman Obituary
Rocky Mount, NC
Dr. Gaylord L. Lehman, age 81, died Friday, November 15, 2013, at Duke University Medical Center, after a brief illness.
He grew up in Inman, South Carolina, and was educated at Gardner-Webb College and Furman University, where he received his BA degree in 1954. He graduated from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY in 1957, and received the Doctor of Theology degree in homiletics (preaching) from that institution in 1961.
Dr. Lehman served as pastor of Lakeside Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, NC for thirty-two years until his retirement in 1998. After his retirement he remained active preaching in several local churches in that area.
Dr. Lehman is survived by his wife of 59 years, Faith Johnson Lehman, and locally by brothers Dr. Lamar Lehman (Brian) of Greenville, SC, and Dr. Jerry Lehman (Faye) of Inman, SC.
A memorial service will be held at Lakeside Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 19, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Lakeside Baptist Church (1501 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804).

I remember him from my teenage years in Benson North Carolina in the early 1960's..what a wonderful preacher he was and VERY informed in the areas of Religious background...I am sure he will be missed by many of his peers

Such a wonderful man! Even after we moved from Ry Mt he was so kind to officiate our daughter's wedding at Peace College...it made it so very special for her as he also baptized her. Miss Faith my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I am the daughter of Mildred Duke, (we both are members) of Bethany Presbyterian and he preached the funeral of my only child-son who we lost 7 years ago, my mama and my husband who we lost over 2 years ago. He was an exceptional man and a friend to all who knew him. May your family be blessed with the comfort of your family and friends in the days to come.
