Gladys S. Howell

Gladys Smith Howell, 83, formerly of Knighton Chapel Road, wife of the late Rev. Don B. Howell, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at Summit Place Nursing Center.

Born in Cobb County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Heyward M. and Nora Tumblin Smith. Mrs. Howell was a homemaker and a member of Fairview Street Baptist Church. She was a beloved member of the community and a special inspiration to those who knew and loved her.

Surviving are one daughter, Joan Howell Lovelace, of Simpsonville; two sons, Don H. Howell of Simpsonville and Wayne H. Howell of Fountain Inn; two sisters, Irene Jones and Frances Hand, both of Greenville; one brother, Homer Smith, of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Lisa, Benito, Matthew, Jacob, Brandi, Jeff, Donna and Melissa; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at Fairview Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Pigg and the Rev. Dennis Helton officiating. Burial will be at the Howell Family Cemetery in Greenville. The family will receive friends today, Aug. 24, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Cannon Funerals and Cremations in Simpsonville.
