To Harry and Ann and Scott I am so sadddened to hear of your father's death. I got to know him over the years when he first started to come to Scott's soccer games along with his beautiful wife. I got to know him even better when I was in the hospital (several times in the past few years. He was a great guy and I miss him. America needs more men like Harry Douty. Your father was a genuine American: A loving father, a hard-working man and someone who always found time to do volunteer work at the hospital. He was God's gift to the world. I would be with you this morning at church but I just had major eye surgery on Friday and am not supposed to drive, which is a good thing because I can't see very clearly. Mr. Douty will be in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure he's in heaven now smiling down on us.

What a wonderful man Mr. Douty was!!. Douty's had been our family service station since the early 60's. Always happy, helpful, and such a gentleman. The last time I saw him, he came to my Moms with her lifeline.
I pray that God surrounds you with his love, and gives you strength and comfort as all of you celebrate his life.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed, rest in peace. Amen Never will I forget this kind, humble man. Will always think of the time that Mr. Douty took Harry Douty, Jr., and his Scot, an me and my son, Will, up to the head waters of the Cooper River, where we took my boat all the way down to the Sullivan's Island landing, to meet Mr. Douty, Sr. Just one of my vivid memories of this soul that the Lord has been waiting in Heaven for. Go with God, my friend.

How well and fondly I remember Harry Douty as proprietor of the service station (? Sinclair ?) in the 1950s when our family lived in Bay View Acres. It was across Coleman Blvd. from "The Fork" restaurant (popular with hunters who got breakfast there way before sunrise).

Mister Harry would happily do all the things that a lady (like my mother) was not supposed to do in those days:
-- fill up the tank,
-- clean the front and back windows,
-- check the oil, and
-- check the tires.

We kids got our Tootsie-Rolls, Snickers, Mars Bars, and Coca Cola at Harry's.

The photo here is quite accurate; he was somewhat timeless. Polite and pleasant every time we came for gas, which was hundreds of times over many years.

God bless him.
