James Morrow Obituary
James R. Morrow Sr., 80, of 1247 Shadow Way, Greenville, and formerly of 17 Ramblewood Lane, Greenville, died at his home Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001.
He was born in Walterboro Jan. 24, 1921, and grew up in the Overbrook section of Greenville. Hegraduated from Greenville High School in 1939. He attended The Citadel as a freshman, transferred to then Clemson College and graduated in the Clemson Class of 1943.
Mr. Morrow was youngest son of the late Francis Lewis and Corrie Beneyfield Morrow.
Mr. Morrow is survived by his wife of 50 years, Aurelia Caudle Morrow. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Corrie Morrow Wiley and Joseph James "Jim" Wiley III of Greer; his son and daughter-in-law, James R. Morrow Jr. M.D. and Holly H. Morrow, of Atlanta; and his four grandchildren, Joseph James Wiley IV of Greenville (a senior at Clemson University), Melissa Hill Morrow of Greenville (a sophomore at Clemson University), Matthew Morrow Wiley of Greenville (a freshman at Valdosta State University), and Corrie Elizabeth Morrow of Greenville (a student at Christ Church Episcopal Upper School). He is survived by his brother, William Francis Morrow, of Greenville; and another brother, Arthur Neal Morrow, of Spartanburg, died in 1997.
Mr. Morrow worked in the textile industry in South Carolina, serving as personnel director with the Milliken Corporation, Riegel Textile Corporation, and most recently with J.P. Stevens as the Director of Personnel for the Greenville Group of the Cotton Division. He was a past-president of the Greenville Area Personnel Association as well as the South Carolina Personnel Association, and also served as President of the Southern Textile Basketball Tournament. He was founder and President of the McCormick Jaycees in McCormick. He served on the Textile Advisory Board of Greenville Technical College.
He was a longtime member of Greenville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, served as a Deacon in the church and taught the Men's Sunday School Class there for many years.
While at Clemson, Mr. Morrow was the Captain of his Company, a member of the Senior Drill Platoon and also a member of Scabbard and Blade. He founded the Morrow Football Award, given yearly to the Best Defensive Player on the varsity football team, and was a member of IPTAY for 51 years. After graduation from Clemson, he served in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant. He served Clemson University on the Board of Visitors.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Greenville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 741 Cleveland St., in Greenville.
The family is at the residence, 1247 Shadow Way, Greenville.
