A native of Greenville, Mac was born April 26, 1921 to Georgina Spence Cunningham and James MacMillan Rabb, Sr. He graduated from Greenville High School and then attended Clemson College where in 1943 he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. After college Mac served in the Army Corp of Engineers during World War II at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Following the War he returned to Greenville to join his father in business at J. Mac Rabb Company.
In 1948 Mac married the love of his life, Jane Ellen Nicholson of Jefferson, S.C. Greenville continued to be their home until the summer of 2006 when health issues made it necessary for Jane and Mac to move to Madison to be nearer family.
Mac will always be remembered as a man of faith, purpose, and integrity and he always was the ultimate gentleman. As a member of Christ Church for 88 years he served on several vestries, taught Sunday School, and was a devoted participant at the Friday morning Men's prayer breakfast. He was active in the Greenville Rotary Club and a long time member of the Poinsett Club. Upon retirement Mac served weekly for ten years at the Project Host Soup Kitchen where he served as the "head" dishwasher.
Our family is so appreciative of the staff at St. Catherine's Village who cared for Mac. He was treated with respect and love and we are very thankful.
Mac was predeceased by his wife, Jane, just two short months ago. He is survived by his son James MacMillan Rabb III (Linda) of Trinity, Florida.; daughter Linda Rabb Williams (Steve) of Madison, Mississippi; grandchildren, Claire Williams Emerick (Dusty) of Nashville, Tennessee, Gray MacMillan Williams (Whitney) also of Madison, James MacMillan Rabb, IV of Washington, D.C., and Christopher Adam Rabb of Bloomington, Indianna; great grandchild Ellie Emerick of Nashville, Tennessee; sisters, Georgina Rabb Powell of Columbia, and Dorothy Rabb Hammond of Greenville.
