Joel Abercrombie Obituary

Joel F. "Jake" Abercrombie, 80, passed into eternal life on May 13, 2010. He was born in Honea Path, a son of the late William Hoke Abercrombie and the late Nancy Brown Abercrombie Beusse.
He served two tours of duty in the U.S. Army.
After his retirement, he began to work with stained glass as a hobby. He later opened "The Grapevine", a store in Abbeville where he designed and made stained glass art works.
His most treasured and beautiful work of art is the stained glass windows in Welcome Presbyterian Church where he was a devoted and beloved member.
He is survived by his wife of fifty five years, Norma Mattison Abercrombie of the home, one son, Danny Abercrombie and wife, Debbie, Ware Shoals and grandson, Kyle Abercrombie; sister, Betty New, Abbeville and several nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 10 am at Welcome Presbyterian Church, located on Hwy. 252 between Honea Path and Ware Shoals at Turkey Creek Road, with Rev. Wayne Wicker officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 9 am.
Active pallbearers will be Terry Boyter, Richard Boyter, Charles Worrill, Mark Henderson, David Mattison and Jack Mattison.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Welcome Presbyterian Church. The family is at the home, 33 Green Acres Drive, and will receive friends Friday 6-8 pm at Parker-White Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made to www.parkerwhitepruitt.com.
