Joseph Cochran Obituary

Joseph Warren Cochrane, 80, of Pelham Springs Place, died Monday, July 6, 2009.

Mr. Cochrane was born March 20, 1929, in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late James Cross Cochrane and Minnie Mitchell Cochrane, both of Canada. Mr. Cochrane spent 10 years in the United States Air Force, 22 years with General Motors in Human Resources then retiring after 12 years with Volkswagen of America, Inc. He received an Associate Degree from Harris Teacher College in St. Louis, Mo., attended Emory University and also NYU. Mr. Cochrane was of the Episcopal faith and was a member of Christ Church Episcopal in Greenville.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jo-Anne Christopher Cochrane. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Christopher Douglas Cochrane and his wife, Liz, of Windham, N.H. and Gordon Marshall Cochrane and his wife, Paige, of Easley, S.C.; grandchildren, Maggie and Colin Cochrane of Windham, N.H. and Alexander Cochrane of Easley, S.C.; two brothers, Murray Mitchell Cochrane and his wife, Doris, of St. Louis, Mo. and James Ross Cochrane and his wife, Ada, of Redding, Calif.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cochrane was predeceased by one sister, Margaret Leath Vitt of Sonoma, Calif.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Mr. Cochrane's physicians and nurses who cared for him during his illness and appreciation to Vista Hospice of the Upstate for their compassion and concern.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at 3:30 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Church Episcopal, Windows to Discipleship Fund, 10 North Church Street, Greenville, SC 29601 or Vista Care Hospice, 15 Brendan Way, Suite 100, Greenville, SC 29615.
