I am stunned that my longtime, ole friend, Joey, has passed away. I just found out via a phone call, informing me of his passing...it's now almost 2 weeks after the fact and wish I had known when it happened...I didn't even know he was in the hospital or anything...It hurts my heart and I've been thinking about him recently, meaning to call him about music, him singing, etc...I wish I had his voice...God blessed him with a good singing voice and more...I'm really going to miss him, his calls, seeing and talking with him, etc...I always tried to help and advise him when he would call about things on his mind or whatever...He left way too soon, 49...sad...My thoughts and prayers go out to his Mom and the whole family and friends...Yes, I'm going to miss my ole buddy...very much... He had a very big heart and was always very kind and more to me. He'd do anything in the world for me and the same from me to him...if possible...God bless your soul, Joey/ Going to miss you, my friend and I can't believe you're gone...Loved you and still do like a brother...Will see you again in The Light/ Heaven...My heart is heavy!!!
And, God bless you Lil Joey and your family...Your Daddy was so proud of you!!! God Bless the whole Freeman Family Always!!! In Jesus' Name!...Amen!!!

So sorry to hear Joey has passed. Being a tall man myself, Joey was one friend that had a smile and a handshake that I would have to reach/look up to get and it was there every time we seen each other. To this day certain songs I hear remind me of him. Keep bending those strings brother! We love you. Gary Patterson

I can't think of anyone else that goes back as far with me than Joey. Together we played in the back yard beating bullets, watching them burn in the trash, running Briggs and Stratton engines without oil to see how long they would last. Tired and sleepy we would rest under the sound of Jean and Mac's attic fan; childhood was great with Joey as a friend. I remember it was an elected relationship throughout the years; eventhough, several times the big guy accidentally tried to kill me. Boy at the times we looked back at the football days, fast driving, Papa Hiott's "getting a wheel", Mac's pelvic thrust to the song Elvira, fire dept., Reds cheeseburgers, through the trailer floor on a pogo stick, and countless other memories to numerous to mention. I named my daughter after Melissa; I can still see her walking through the blackberry bushes as a tiny child, swinging in the pines, pulling hubcaps, etc. Jenna and the smell of cat poop; fond memories of our childhood.
The entire Freeman family is my family because of my friendship with Joey.
We are born to die, and I remember Joey and I talking about life a lot. The cross that has covered Joey is the cross that covers us all. With it we have hope, without it life is empty. After all the complexity of life, it ends with hope. Our efforts matter, of course, because of how our lives affect others; however, if our efforts matter as to our ultimate justification we are all doomed. So, for me and my old friend Joey, it is the cross, without our ability, that will see us together after all is done. Remember, if there is no hope of the resurrection then we have no hope at all. I have hope...and so did Joey.
Sincerely...

Terry and Debbie Nabors
