Joy Harris Obituary

Joy Marie Harris, 55, wife of Wayne E. Harris, of Taylors, died Dec. 9, 2006, in her home after an extended illness.

Born Sept. 24, 1951, in Tampa, Fla., she moved to Greenville in June of 1966. She was the daughter of the late Rudolph Borja and Lorraine Hines.

Joy attended Wade Hampton High School, and in 1991, graduated from University of South Carolina-Spartanburg with a bachelor of arts in education and the honor of cum laude. Joy worked as a substitute teacher in Greenville County Schools until her health prevented her from doing so, and she was a member of Northeast Church of Christ, having served as a Sunday school teacher with her husband. She was also an artist and collector, being proficient in the art of porcelain doll making and antique doll reproduction.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, is a daughter, Jennifer Marie Harris, 29, of Greenville. Also surviving Mrs. Harris are sisters, Lucretia Howell of Greenville, Ramona Cornelis of Pass Christian, Miss., and Dolores Caruthers of Kiln, Miss.; and a brother, Ronald Borja of Kiln, Miss.

Services will be Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at 11 a.m., at Northeast Church of Christ, 3506 Edwards Road, Taylors, with burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 13, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Woodlawn Funeral Home.
