Richard McIntyre Obituary

Richard L. McIntyre, 77, formerly of Gouverneur, N.Y., died Wednesday, December 10, 2008, after a long illness with Alzheimer's.

Born in Potsdam, N.Y., Mr. McIntyre graduated from St. Lawrence University with a Masters Degree in chemistry. He then served two years in the Army at Ft. Dix, N.J., as an auto mechanics instructor.

Mr. McIntyre taught Chemistry at Gouverneur High School for 37 years. He retired to Simpsonville, S.C., in 1989 returning with his wife, June, each summer to his cottage at Trout Lake in Edwards, N.Y.

Mr. McIntyre's many hobbies included auto mechanics and the repair and restoration of antique clocks and furniture. He was a member of Mauldin United Methodist Church and greatly enjoyed his work with the "4-P's" and singing in the Chancel Choir and Men's Ensemble.

Married for 56 years, Richard is survived by his wife, June M.; and four children: son, William Bruce McIntyre and wife Sabrina, Simpsonville, S.C.; daughters Sarah L. Gaffney and husband Cecil, Taylors, S.C., Roberta L. Brown and husband T. Scot, Warwick, N.Y., and Maureen M. Garner and husband Lt. Col. Peter, Virginia Beach, Va., and 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Virginia Demirjian, Clearwater, Fla.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning, December 20, 2008, at Mauldin United Methodist Church. Memorial gifts may be made to the Mauldin United Methodist Church Music Fund at 101 E. Butler Rd., Mauldin, SC 29662.

Condolences may be sent to the family at the home of June McIntyre, 101 Emerald Way, Simpsonville, SC 29681.

Cremation Society of South Carolina is serving the McIntyre family.
