Spero Petrakos Obituary
Greenville
Spero "Speedy" Steve Petrakos, 84, of Greenville, passed away October 16, 2016.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Steve and Pat Petrakos. He was a 1955 graduate of Furman University. He enlisted into the US Air Force and served six years where he became a Staff Sergeant. Speedy retired after 20 years in retail sales with Belks.
Speedy was an avid reader, gardener and in his younger days enjoyed dancing. He demonstrated love and passion for his family, and was a dedicated son in caring for his mother. He loved his faith and was an active and lifelong member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
Surviving are his sister-in-law, Margaret Petrakos; nephews, Nick Petrakos and Steve Petrakos and his wife Lisa; and many cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother George Steve Petrakos.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 11:00am at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, with Father Tom Pistolis officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday morning beginning at 10:00am with the Trisagon prayer beginning at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

I was one of Speedy's caregivers and I can honestly say I have never met a man more loving and kind. I always got excited when I saw I'd be helping care for him on my shift. My heart is broken that he is gone, but the peace in knowing he's in heaven with the Lord, suffering no longer relieves that heart break. I'll see you soon Speedy. I love you. Love,Alyssa
