William Laughlin Obituary

William "Bill" Raymond Laughlin

Augusta, Ga - William "Bill" Raymond Laughlin, 90, passed away Wednesday October 3rd, peacefully at his son Steve and daughter in law Karen's home in Augusta Ga. Bill was born and raised in Cincinnati Ohio by his late father Ray Laughlin and mother Selma Bohn . In 1949 he entered the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant, was sent to USAF Navigation School and USAF Radar School then stationed at Lowery Air Force Base, Co. Bill joined the 423rd Bombardment Squadron "The Grim Reapers "in Japan and flew 56 night missions from Japan to North Korea. He was awarded the several medals including The Air Medal for "meritorious service while flying fifth Air Force B-26 bombers", reached the rank of Captain and was honorably discharged in 1953. Bill married his soul mate Mary "Annie" Frances Tigrett in 1952, graduated from Ohio State University in 1956 with a degree in accounting, and son Steve was born in 1959.

The family moved to Charleston SC in 1971 when Bill accepted the position as Assistant Superintendent for Business, Charleston County School District. Later he would be elected as President of the Charleston Chapter, National Associations of Accountants, earn his Master's Degree from the University of South Carolina, teach night classes on accounting at the Citadel and then end his work career at Carolina Eastman, or so he thought. Annie felt he needed to exercise his brain more and got him a part time job at, Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach, on Johns Island SC where he worked part time until he was 80 years old.

Bill was a member of Mauldin United Methodist Church and an active member of the Sunday School Action Class. He is survived by his son, Steve, daughter in law Karen, grandsons Donald "DJ" Rich and Bobby Rich {Amy Kenney}. He is preceded in death by his wife Annie and his ashes will be interred by hers.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday October 20th, 300 pm at Rolling Greens Village Greenville SC, in the main building. Retired Pastor Gareth Scott will be presiding.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation to Greenville Humane Society.

My family is blessed to have Steve Laughlin as our brother-in-law, and yet, doubly blessed when we formed a bond with his parents, Bill and Annie Laughlin. We loved to chat with these charming and delightful people. We were excited when we knew our holiday visits would intersect with theirs. We were happy for our sister, Karen, and our nephews, DJ and Bobby, to have found such a wonderful family to make a part of their own.
Just one moment to solely focus on Bill. One in a million. A true gentleman. A man who enjoyed a good laugh -- at no one's expense. Loved. Treasured. We will sorely miss you, and take comfort in your well-lived life.

Offering my condolences. As you remember your love one, as Almighty God heals your broken hearts, may your treasured memories bring you peace, comfort, and strength to endure. (Psalm 147:3)

My deep condolences to the family. Colossians 3:15 gives the encouragement to "let the peace of the Christ rule in your hearts". May this peace comfort you at this difficult time.
