Cathy Mattera

1949 - 2024

Cathy Pirina Mattera, 75, of Cos Cob, CT died July 30. She was born on June 21, 1949 in Port Chester, NY, the daughter of the late John Pirina and Amelia Hinlicky Pirina.

She graduated from Greenwich High School in 1967 and worked as an office assistant before marrying in 1971 and raising a family. She returned to work later in life, spending the last 25+ years as a food services employee for the Greenwich Public School system.

Cathy had many hobbies and interests throughout her lifetime, including crafting, needlepoint, ceramics and collecting holiday ornaments/decorations. She spent many holiday weeks having fun at Mohegan Sun playing the slot machines and eating at their signature restaurants. She enjoyed spending time with close friends and family and cooking her beloved pasta and meatballs for the kids. The wildlife that traversed her backyard was always a source of wonder and entertainment for her.

She is survived by her sons Joseph III of Stamford, and Michael John (Shira) of Tarrytown, NY. She is also survived by grandchildren Daniel and Yoni, nephews Donald Currie (Theresa), Joseph Currie (Carol), and Todd Currie (Emilie), and many grand-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her late husband Joseph Mattera, mother Amelia Hinlicky Pirina, father John Pirina, and an infant son.

Viewing will be on August 4th from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich, CT. The funeral will be held on August 5th at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 286 Delavan Ave in Greenwich, CT. Burial will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, NY.
