Jane Hogeman Obituary

Jane Danter Hogeman passed away on July 19, 2023, after a brief illness. Born on September 23, 1950, in Hartford, Connecticut, her parents, Mary O. Hogeman and George L. Hogeman, predeceased her.

Jane graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Art History in 1972 and from the University of Michigan Law School, cum laude, in 1976. She began her career as in-house counsel to the Governor's Organized Crime Prevention Commission of the State of New Mexico for four years. Jane was engaged in the private practice of law in Greenwich, CT, from 1986 to 2015, focusing on real estate and zoning law and was a member of the Greenwich, Stamford Regional, and Connecticut Bar Associations. In 2002, after working at Albert, Ward and Pastore, PC, in Greenwich, she became a partner at Johnson & Hogeman, LLP. The firm continues to carry her name as Johnson, Haslun & Hogeman, LLP.

Beginning in 2004, Jane served as a Board Member of the Greenwich Land Trust and served as its President from 2012-2014. While she served as President, the Greenwich Land Trust achieved accreditation from the national Land Trust Alliance. During this time, the Greenwich Land Trust also received the donation of a historic farmstead that became its headquarters and an environmental teaching venue for the community. Funding needed to maintain these barn and homestead buildings for the next fifty years was raised immediately so as not to burden future Boards. In addition, Jane was a Board Member of the United Way of Greenwich for six years, and a Board Member and Chairman of the Greenwich Community Planning Council for Health and Human Services. She served as an Officer and member of the Greenwich Historical Society for five years, and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Junior League of Greenwich.

In 2015, Jane retired to Pinehurst, North Carolina and joined the Pinehurst Country Club. True to form, she became involved in her new hometown, giving her time and expertise. After serving on a four-member committee of the Pinewild Property Owner's Association to research better ways to integrate the Village's commercial zones with residential areas, she chaired a committee to monitor the development of Hwy-211 as a gateway corridor. In 2019, Jane mounted a successful campaign to the Pinehurst Village Council. She was finishing her four-year term at the time of her passing.

Jane's family and close friends knew her to be generous and supportive, consistently staying the course for those she loved and for the causes she cared about. She was brilliant and possessed a depth of knowledge across a range of subjects and never ceased in her quest to learn. When Jane shared a story, she lit up the room with an unmatched eloquence, a sparkle in her eye and an excellent sense of humor. Her enthusiasm for, and interest in, each member of her family and her close friends, was a gift. Jane is deeply missed. Survivors include her son, Benjamin E. Yaker, her daughter-in-law Meredith L. Yaker, her three grandchildren Charles N. Yaker, Mary J. Yaker, and Christopher G. Yaker, her sister, Susan H. O'Connor, her brother-in-law Timothy K. O'Connor, her niece Elizabeth A. O'Connor, her nephew Jack D. O'Connor and his husband Joël Lemière. She leaves cousins of whom she was very fond.
