Charles Edwards Obituary

Charles Nicholas Edwards, III
December 3rd, 1945 - November 6th, 2022
Charles, known more popularly as "Nick", was born in Greenwich where he spent the majority of his life. An avid athlete growing up, he played on the Greenwich High School Basketball team and was the starting Quarterback of the 1962 Greenwich High School State Championship Football team. Following in his footsteps, he was delighted that his son was a starting Running Back on the 2006 GHS State Champion Football team. Nick played football for Trinity College (CT), graduating in 1967 and attended Kansas State University where he earned a master's in psychology and completed course work for his PhD graduating with all but dissertation (ABD). Nick was a Graduate Assistant at the Counseling Center at Kansas State University with Clinical Practicum in the Mental Health Center, He also earned a Master's in the Science of Creative Intelligence at Maharishi European University in Seelisberg, Switzerland in 1978 with studies and research in Consciousness.
Nick was employed for almost 30 years as a Case Worker for the Town of Greenwich in Human Services. He served for 14 years as a member of the Representative Town Meeting in Greenwich, a 14-year member of the Democratic Town Committee, a Moderator for overseeing elections for 10 years in Town and a Justice of the Peace for 7 years. He was actively involved in his son's Boy Scout Troop (#10) for 10+ years and served as President of the Greenwich Kiwanis for 7 years. Nick was the Secretary for the Greenwich Red Men's Home Organization (remember the Boston Tea Party) and was a long-term Outreach member and Head Usher for Christ Church. He was very committed to helping with the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, always serving at Thanksgiving Dinners and Pancake Breakfasts, as well as coaching youth sports. Service in the Community was an important part of Nick's life.
A 50-year TM meditator and 48-year Certified Teacher of the Transcendental Meditation Program, he taught many people in Darien, Stamford and Greenwich, and taught TM at Bridgewater Associates in Westport for over 4 years. He also taught TM under Ms. Marty Mann at Silver Hill in the 1970's. Nick left us at his home in Fairfield, Iowa as he sat in Meditation: one could not imagine a more blissful transition. We will miss his wonderful sense of humor (oh the jokes!) and his hearty laugh, his calm demeanor, and skills as a problem solver, all of which made him beloved here in Greenwich and in Fairfield, Iowa. He died at the happiest time of his life having retired to Fairfield, Iowa where he had many friends and was deeply engaged in the local Community. He volunteered at the Fairfield Arts and Civic Center and looked forward to teaching again at the Maharishi International University where he had taught Psychology for 4 years during the 1970's and participated in research at the University. The Edwards Family were 5 generations in Iowa having founded Oakville Iowa and farmed in Morning Sun Iowa.
He leaves behind his wife of 35 years Christine Larson Edwards, his son Charles "Nick" Edwards IV (wife Lauren) his brother Rick Edwards (wife Liz) and nieces Isabel (husband Shawn Triplett) and Odessa, and nephews Fred, and Homer (wife Rebecca) and many other grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by his Father Charles Edwards II and Mother Elizabeth Kay (Kurpiewskya) Edwards and nephews Carlos and Winston Edwards.
Please join us at Christ Church in Greenwich, CT (254 East Putnam Avenue) at 1 p.m. Saturday January 7th for a Memorial Celebration of his life and for refreshments and remembrances to follow at the Tomes-Higgins House on the Christ Church campus after the Service. Donations in Nick's Memory may be made to Christ Church, the David Lynch Foundation, the Greenwich Kiwanis, The Greenwich Boy Scouts, or The Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich.

Christine, Nick, Entire Edwards Family & Friends, Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I have numerous great memories of Nick watching our Son's Cos Cob Crusher and GHS Cardinals Football games along with the many Championships and Parties we were so fortunate to enjoy. Nick must have produced hundreds of hours of game films and during Crusher FB Seasons we would have Friday Nite Pizza at the Clarke's house watching Nick's Game Films with the team, always an eventful nite ! Nick was very passionate and knowlegable about so many subjects, a great one to converse with. Our views on Politics could Not be further apart, however that Never prevented us from spirited conversation ! Nick was a Great American Patriot who deeply loved our country and was always so giving of himself to his Church and Greenwich Community Services. Nick always made the Best Santa at Christmas and no one will ever forget his endless Jokes and quick wit one Liners. I will miss you my Friend and until we meet again, rest in peace & happiness. May God continue to bless the Edwards Family. With heartfelt sympathy, Sue & Pat Clarke and Family
