David and I were two SAILER law teachers in Khartoum, Sudan, from 1996 to 1967. David was quite dashing at the time, having just been a fighter pilot. He was smart as a whip. He loved his teaching post and bonded with the faculty members and Dean Zaki Mustafa. For many years after we abruptly were terminated due to the Six Day War, David was one of the key SAILER alumni, and he played a significant role in bringing about our "Twenty Years After" reunion at the Arden House, where a majority of the former SAILER teachers convened to reflect on what, if any, contribution we had made to the development of African law and legal institutions through the SAILER program. He was an admirable man.

Just now learned of David's death. I am very sad. We'd been friends since our senior year at Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C. Then he went off to Stanford and I went to Oberlin. He led a good life, loving Bo, and was so proud of his children, grandchildren, and even some great grandchildren, as I recall. So glad that so many of you took that lovely trip to Berlin and Athens last December! Newish memories.

Beau. Paul and I were so sad to hear of David´s passing. We have such fond memories of lovely summer evenings together. Paul will especially miss trading oft told war/pilot stories with him. You are in our thoughts and prayers my friend.

Bo,
We are so sorry for your loss and are praying for you and your family.
Dave was a father figure and mentor for me at a time when my fathers (both natural and step) had passed on. He interviewed me for Cravath on campus in 1984, was my first assigned partner when I started in 1986, of course was a dear friend and partner during our years together in London from 1996-2000, and was there for me with sage advice when Lisa and I went through a difficult period in our marriage.
They don´t get any better than Dave. A good man and a life lived well. It is an honor and blessing to call him a friend.
