Harry Rubicam Obituary

Harry Cogswell Rubicam, III passed away peacefully on March 11, 2023 in Scottsdale, AZ. He was 91 years old. Harry was born on June 16, 1931, in Denver, CO to Harry Cogswell Rubicam, Jr. and Louise Bell Rubicam. The Rubicams moved to Pelham, NY when Harry was four, where he met Cynthia (Cindy) Pendleton, to whom he would be married for almost 70 years.
Harry attended Pelham High School and earned a B.A. from Amherst College in 1953. He was drafted in 1954 and served as a First Field Sargent in the US Army. After discharge, Harry was hired as a promotion trainee at Time, Inc., beginning a 32-year career with the company, most notably as Promotion Director for Sports Illustrated magazine and Marketing Director of SI Enterprises.
Harry and Cindy raised their three children, Lynn, Peter (Kelly), and Wendy (Craig Willis), in Old Greenwich, CT. After his retirement from Time, Inc., Harry and Cindy started a successful business as antique dealers and later relocated to Sharon, CT, where they enjoyed an active social and family life. In Sharon, Harry served in many community leadership positions.
In addition to his wife and children, Harry is survived by his grandchildren, Samantha and Nick Evans, Savannah and Grace O'Malley, Katherine (Eric Scanlon), John Rubicam and Madeline (Mason Copper), and great-grandchildren, Pendleton and Booker Scanlon.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in Harry's name can be made to the Foothills Food Bank and Resource Center in Cave Creek, AZ.

So sad to read about Harry. He was such a nice man and so fun to work near at SI. Always a smile and sweet chuckle. Loved bumping into Cindy and Harry at local antique shows after the Time Inc. days. Fondest memories!

Harry rescued me from a rather mundane job at the Wall Street Journal and going to work at SI for him was the best job change I ever made. He was a pleasure to work for, and he taught how to really promote advertising in magazines. To become friends and still be your boss was a great skill he had. He was always in my thoughts for the many years following Time Inc. RIP, Rubes
