Irene Duffy Obituary
Irene J. (Krumeich) Duffy, a retired NYS Judge, died after a short illness on January 13, 2023, in Greenwich, CT. Irene grew up in the Bronx and thereafter resided in Bronxville and Pelham Manor, NY. She was a graduate of The College of New Rochelle and Fordham Law School, where she became one of the first female members of the Law Review. After graduating, Irene worked at the SEC as an attorney, becoming a branch chief. She took time off to have children and returned to the SEC and then served as an Assistant District Attorney for Westchester County, and Corporation Counsel for Yonkers. Following 10 years back in the work force, she was appointed to serve as a Supreme Court justice in the Bronx, where she worked until her retirement. Prior to attending Fordham Law School, Irene met her future husband, Kevin, who also became a member of the judiciary. Irene is survived by her sons, Kevin Jr. and Gavin, and a daughter, Irene. Another son, Patrick, predeceased her. Irene is survived by 8 grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be held for her and her husband Kevin Thomas Duffy, on April 1st at St. Agnes Church in Greenwich, CT.

What a lovely woman. I was a court reporter in Judge Duffy's court and knew him well, so when he died I sent her a note of condolence and particular sorrow that this old friend's life had been stolen by covid. She wrote me such a sweet, heartfelt thank you - never knew me, just so nice. Our thoughts and sympathy now are with their children and grandchildren.

Irene and I were classmates at The College of New Rochelle and friends for more than 70 years. We visited one another in New York and California, and I have so many happy memories of the times we shared with our New Rochelle friends. Irene was a loving friend, and I shall miss the phone conversations we had these past years. I loved and admired her and Kevin too. One of my happiest memories was attending the wedding of dear Patrick with all of the family and several of our friends from CNR. I shall miss Irene, and her family has my deepest sympathy.
