James Cox Obituary

James W. Cox, Jr.
James ("Jim") W. Cox Jr., age 53, passed away on December 12, 2020 after a courageous three-year long private battle with pancreatic cancer. He was predeceased by his father, James Cox Sr. and his mother, Julia Rose (Stefanowicz) Cox. Jim was a lifelong resident of Cos Cob, CT.
Jim had many fond memories growing up of summers spent with his parents and brothers Bruce and Brad at their family vacation home on Franklin Pierce Lake in Hillsboro, NH. He also looked back fondly upon early outings on Long Island Sound with his father and brothers in his father's boat "My Three Sons".
Jim was a gifted athlete and talented ice hockey player. He was a member of the 1985 and 1986 Greenwich High School FCIAC championship hockey team and enjoyed playing recreational hockey throughout his life. He was an avid sportsmen and conservationist. He once rescued a full-grown Osprey he saw struggling and entangled in fishing line. The rescue resulted in a write-up in the Greenwich Time accompanied by a picture of Jim holding the freed bird with its wings outstretched. His skills as a hunter and fisherman were honed over a lifetime of enjoyment of the outdoors. He would spend countless hours in the woods over the course of a season for the opportunity to see a trophy buck. He was a highly skilled bow hunter.
Summers would find Jim enjoying the waters of Long Island Sound, fishing with his brother Brad and friends. He knew the local waters of Long Island Sound like the back of his hand. Once or twice a summer, Jim would pilot his beloved 31' Bertram, "Last Minute" from Cos Cob to the offshore waters of Montauk Point for some deep sea big-game fishing.
Jim was also a successful businessman, owning and operating his business James Cox Sanitation, Inc. for 32 plus years, of which he was very proud.
Above all, Jim was a positive, friendly, caring and goodhearted person. He, along with his brother Brad, was a loving caregiver to his Mother for the past 12 years until she passed earlier in 2020.
Jim is survived by his brothers, Bruce (Christy) of Marietta, GA, Brad (Lori) of Greenwich, CT, a nephew, niece and many cousins. Jim had numerous friends and will be greatly missed by all.
Due to Covid-19, there will be no services held at this time but donations to Jim's memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or the American Cancer Society would be most appreciated.

James’ stories and appreciation for life will remain in my heart. He always shared stories with me of the beautiful sunrises he witnessed whether on his boat fishing or on the job in OG near Tods Point. I have stunning photos of a sunrise he witnessed in 8/29/20 where we mentioned each day is a gift. Photo attached.
To his brothers and friends, please accept my deepest condolences. James is with God but we shall miss him.

To the Cox family, I am sorry for the loss of Jimmy. I have many fond memories of him when I worked in Cod Cob, and would see him almost daily. He truly was a special soul who made the most of life. I can still see his smile and hear his nerdy laugh. Fair winds and following seas Jimmy. Until we meet again.

I got to know Jimmy back in the 90's through hockey. We also played a little softball together and a round or two of golf. He was a joy to be around and had a sense of purpose that you don't often see in someone so young.

My sincere condolences.

To the family of Jim Cox,
Years ago, my elderly mother who lived by herself was a loyal customer of Jim's. Every time he would come, she would hear his vehicle and rush to greet him while he worked. It was a highlight of her day because he was so kind, welcoming, and the interaction meant so much to her. We know from her experience that Jim was a special person who kindly took time for someone like her. Our family is deeply appreciative of that kindness. We send our condolences at this very difficult time

Bruce, Brad, entire Cox Family & Friends, So saddened to learn of Jimmy's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I was introduced to Jimmy many years ago by Sandy McMurray who thought Jimmy and I would make great partners for the 1st Annual Mianus River Boat & Yacht Club Corn Hole Tournament. We shared so many laughs that day as we went on to win the tournament. Jimmy was an All Around great guy, a gentleman who always shared his sense of humor along with his great passion for the Outdoors and Life in general. Rest in peace my friend until we meet again. May God continue to bless the Cox Family. With heartfelt sympathy, Pat Clarke

To the Cox family I am deeply saddened to hear the passing of Jimmy. Brad, this is a hard one for me, your brothers love for first and foremost his mom was heartwarming, his love for you, his family and friends was just apparent, he was just a great guy! A rugged all American . Not to mention his love for boating, fishing, hunting and love for life. He taught me to correctly pronounce “COYOTE “He was a customer at Palmer Point for probably 43 years, but I’ve known him 25. He will surely be missed by many people.
