Joe was the father in-law of my boss. And though I did not have a personal relationship with him, I did see him at the office a dozen times or so. Joe always greeted me with a smile and charm. He was playful, and told little jokes or made comments with the purpose of making others smile. I can recall one particular time that I saw him; his oldest grandson, Kevin, was running around the office playing hide and go seek. Kevin didn't realize that we could all see him because he was standing behind a glass block wall, but his grandpa played along, pretending to look for him and evoking squeals of delight from Kevin. The look that Joe had in his eyes watching his little boy, was nothing short of complete adoration.
To his entire family, especially Valerie, I wish to express heartfelt condolences for your loss. I know you loved your father tremendously and the days ahead will be difficult for you. But like it is taught in your religion, with all his years as a good and faithful servant, we know that there is surely hope for resurrection in the "new system" and it will be a time without pain and suffering. So cast your eyes forward to that time, when you, he and the rest of your family can be together again forever.
