We just heard about the terrible accident taking Dr Burbige's life. To his family, may God and all your friends help you find strength in his far to early passing. He was the coolest Doctor we have ever had. He went to bat for us because he felt it was the right thing to do, he cared for my son in infancy and through early adulthood.
Cole went to school with his son. He was the most loving caring doctor, I can only imagine what a wonderful Husband and Father you had. I pray for you all to find some purpose in all this. Sincerely Nancy and Cole Russel

Dr. Burbige came highly recommended by a physician college friend when my newborn son needed surgery at Greenwich Hospital. Dr. Burbige was kind, caring and extremely thorough in his treatment of my son. Always thoughtful and attentive, could not have asked for better care and professionalism.

Mrs. Burbige,family and staff;
There are no words that can make you feel better, just time. Time and knowing that Kevin is in a better place. Dr. Burbige was the most beautiful doctor a patient and a family could ask for. He will be missed by me and my family ... especially Kiki who missed seeing him last month. He made us feel relaxed, calm, and secure everytime we saw him. And every time I look at ripening tomatoes in my garden, I will think of him and his love for people, his patients, and his gardening.

I can remember when our first daughter was born and getting the call that she had hydronephrosis. We learned this a week after birth because the report was read finally from a week before my wife gave birth and an ultrasound was taken. Long story short from networking among the Lamaze classes and the pediatrician, we found Dr. B. As difficult it was to see our daughter have surgery a few months later to correct the problem, he told us, "its worse for you than it will be for the child". We all survived it, and we did go for our daughter's regular check ups. She is now 11 and doing fine. I was more upset hearing about his death than some deaths there were in my family. Sometimes I just don't understand the meaning of things. I remember thinking that this man was a God send; brilliant and had a wonderful bed side manner. Our prayers are with the family. We are all deeply sorry. He is irreplaceable..

Dear Mrs. Burbige and Family,
Please accept our condolences for your tragic loss. Dr. Burbige performed four surgeries on our son over the course of his childhood. Not only was Dr. Burbige an extraordinarily gifted surgeon, he was a kind, considerate, caring person, who made difficult situations much less so. While no words can provide you comfort at this time, I hope that you can find some solace in knowing how many lives your husband and father affected. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

To the Burbige family, there are no words to express what a special man Dr. Burbige was to our family. He operated on our daughter last fall when she was only 8 months old, and today, because of his gift, she is a happy and healthy little girl. We were so shocked and saddened by his passing, and we cannot imagine the sorrow you feel. Please know that for our family he was an angel here on Earth and he will always be in our prayers. He was so kind and caring during a difficult and scary time for us as parents, and we will always be grateful that he was our doctor. When my daughter is older and we explain the small scar to her, we will also tell her how lucky she was to have been in his care. May it bring you comfort to know how many lives he touched and that he will never be forgotten. With deepest sympathy,

To the Burbige Family, I was so saddened to hear of the loss of your wonderful husband and Dad. We started seeing him 4 years ago when it was discovered my son had a kidney issue when I was 36 weeks pregnant. He got us through the hardest time of our lives and performed surgery on my son at 11 weeks. He was such a gentleman, so assuring and kind, and always had a story to make us smile. We named My son's favorite soft toy, a red puppy "Burby" after him, as he was undoubtedly my son's favorite doctor. I hope you find comfort in knowing how much he will be missed.

When my sister called me from Florida to tell me the news about Dr. Burbige I was in shock. We met him 19 yrs ago. My daughter became a patient of his when she was born in 1991. He had done surgery on Amanda and was a very caring man. His office manager (Columbia Presbyterian Babies Hospital in NYC) Pat is a long time friend of our family. She is the one who contacted my sister who contacted me. My daughter was up set by the news as we all were. All I could was cry & think of how this possible could have happen to a very special person. He has helped so many children. It is a very sad. MY next thought was to his own children & his wife. This was a man who I know truely loved his wife & children. My heart & prays go out to them to give them the strenght to get this through this terrible time. The world has lost a wonderful doctor. God Bless the Burbige Family. God Speed Dr Kevin Burbige

What an extreme loss for all of us. I live in Brookfield and saw the morning paper and prayed for that person and the family not knowing who this terrible accident happened to. I was the office manager for Dr. Rudy Andriani, when Dr. Burbige first started seeing patients in our office. I always admired his laid-back gentle ways and have the utmost respect and admiration for him. My heart and prayers are with you all at this time and during the transition of your great loss.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Burbige's death. He operated on our ten week old son more than 21 years ago. We have never forgotten him, nor his kindness or his sense of humor. We needed to see him again several years ago and he was still the same kind and reassuring doctor that he had been so long ago. We will be forever grateful to him for taking such good care of our son and his two very worried parents. We hope that his family can take some comfort in knowing how highly thought of he was.

We were so shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Burbige's passing. I met Kevin in 1986 when I was a medical student at Columbia and he just started there on the faculty. Then in 1990, there was no choice but to have him care for our son. He was an extremely skilled surgeon and a dedicated and compassionate doctor. Over the years through multiple surgeries, he was always there for us when we called at night, on holiday or from London. He was such a large part of our lives and we will miss him greatly. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family.

Words can never properly express how sad we all feel by Dr. Burbige's passing. To those of us who entrusted our most precious asset, our children, to his expert care, it is a devastating loss. He was a true gentle man and a gift from God. I always thought of him as a "country doctor" in his suspenders and bow tie because when you needed him he was always there. He was a "buck stops here" type of physician. There were no layers of people between him and his patients. He always cared and he always had time for you. We all knew he loved his work and how lucky we were to be part of his practice. We feel honored to have known him and experienced first hand his extraordinary talent. My son has often said that he wouldn't be here if not for Dr. Burbige. I am sure that there are countless number of people who could say the same thing.

To his sons and his wife, we are so sorry and hope that you can take comfort in how many, many lives he has touched. Please accept our condolences and our prayers.

We were so sorry to hear of Dr. Burbige's tragic and untimely passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his beloved family. We met Dr. Burbige 2 1/2 years ago when he performed surgery on one of our 3 month old sons. He was such a mild mannered physician with and incredible bed-side manner and a refreshing personality. He was so modest about the amazing work he did. I remember thanking him for taking such good care of our son and he said no thanks needed, just think of me when your son is potty training and his aim is on the mark. Well, Dr. Burbige, our boys are potty training and repeatedly hitting their mark. Thank You for that. May you rest in peace and soar with the heavenly angels.

June 11, 2010

It must seem odd that the world continues to turn today. The news happens, the sun shines, the mail comes while you sit among his clothes, his papers, his unfinished tasks - as if it was all a mistake, and he'll be home any minute.

He treated our son in infancy and we have looked forward to our annual visits with him since then. An expert surgeon, but also a warm, cheerful, caring, charming man. Full of funny stories, it was obvious he loved life and his family. Your dad talked about you at least once every time we saw him - he loved you so much.

I too lost my dad when I was 16. It seems inconceivable that life will go on. But it does. It will be different, and you will miss him for the rest of your life. But with the help of your siblings, mother and family, you will be OK. And if it is any comfort, do not discount the hope that he is with you now, somehow. My mother and sisters all reported, independently, that our front door opened and closed many times in the weeks after he left us.
