Mary Wowk Obituary

MARY WOWK a long time resident of Old Greenwich and a recent resident at Smith House in Stamford, died Wednesday evening, June 9 at the Stamford Hospital. She was 92 years old. Born in Stamford on April 24, 1918, Mary was the daughter of Ignatz and Kateryna Szkwarok Wowk, and the sister of the late Michael Wowk and Sophie Wowk Kulchuk. Mary will be best remembered by her kindness, generosity and the love she gave to her extended family. Her positive attitude and the grace with which she lived each and every day will continue to be an inspiration. Her cooking skills were well known and she enjoyed nothing more than to prepare an entire meal for her family and to send us home with delicious left-overs. She is survived by the following family members, her brother-in-law and friend of over 60 years, Alexander Kulchuk of Stamford, nephew Gregory Kulchuk and Lynn Kulchuk of Enfield, CT, nephew Michael Wowk Jr. and Lisa Wowk of Trumbull, CT, niece Marcia Wessels and Tom Wessels of Westminster, VT, and niece Cathy Bird and Ken Bird of Trumbull, CT. Mary is also survived by many great nieces and nephews, Robert Kulchuk and Julie Kulchuk of Littleton, MA and daughter Katie, Kelsey Wessels of Greenfield, MA, Christopher and David Wowk and Daniel and Brian Bird of Trumbull, CT. Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 15 from 9 a.m.-10 a.m., followed by a short service at Leo Gallagher Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Oaklawn Avenue in Stamford.

My deepest sympathies to Mary's family. I had the great pleasure of Working for Mary right after I graduated from college. Mary was a wonderful women who will be surely missed.
