Garbarini , Peter
Award Winning Cinematographer Peter G. Garbarini passed away peacefully on September 14, 2012 on his 95th birthday with his family by his side. A 61 year Greenwich resident, he is survived by twin sons Ronald P. Garbarini and Richard J. Garbarini, his wife Dolores Garbarini; 2 grandchildren Gregory Peter Garbarini and Lori Ann Garbarini; his brother James Garbarini, sister Livia Herman. Predeceased by his wife Ursula and brother Arthur Gary (Garbarini). He grew up in Brooklyn, NY. He was drafted into the army during WWII March 10, 1941. Honorably Discharged August 10, 1945. He served in Europe as a Staff Sergeant Company "C" 805th Tank Destroyer Battalion where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious service in combat. Also wounded in battle he received the Purple Heart. After the war returning home to New York he attended New York University Film School. Then going on to work for Hartley Productions for several years and then Joined the I.A. International Alliance of Theatrical stage employees and moving picture operators AFL-CIO-CLC Local 644, Local 600 in NYC and Local 659 in California. As a Director of Photography and Camera Operator. He was nominated for 2 Academy Awards in the short subject category and received an Emmy Award for outstanding Cinematography for his work on Eleanor and Franklin. Some of his other films he worked on include: Endless Love, King Kong, Fame, The Warriors, Paper Lion, For Love of Ivy, The Hot Rock, The Jazz Singer, Night Hawks, Annie, Marathon Man, Sybil, Altered States, Heroes, Thieves, Defiance, Andy, The Dain Curse, Gloria, Amazing Grace, Crazy Joe, The Angel Levine, The Great Smokey Road Block, Flamingo Kid and many others. He retired after 40 years of film making and his last film was Ghostbusters, Both of his sons also in the business had the great opportunity to work with him on many films. Still very active after retiring, building a new home, fishing on his boat, playing Bridge with friends and enjoying holidays with his family. He was a man of endless talent and will truly be missed by all that knew and loved him. Funeral Services will be private.

Dear Ricky, Dee, Greg, Lori and Ronnie, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I met Mr. Garbarini just a few times and found him to be a very personable, friendly, fun, enjoyable person. I will always remember him fondly and I am sure you all will miss him terribly. I wish you peace and fond memories.
