Ralph Pagano Obituary

RALPH EDWARD PAGANO, SR.

died on Monday, February 11, 2008 peacefully at his home in Jupiter, FL surrounded by devoted family. Born in 1919 and raised in Stamford, Ralph was the youngest child of the late Salvatore and Theresa (Venezia) Pagano. He was pre-deceased by his siblings, Anthony, Samuel, Louis "Red", Madeline Vassallo and Margaret Conti.

Ralph served in the U.S. army during World War II in the European Theater, 106 Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his discharge, he returned to CT and joined his siblings as a professional barber in Stamford. Ralph "the Barber" had a dedicated following throughout his 60 years as a Stamford fixture; he was known as much for his dry wit and laconic charm as his sartorial style and political opinions. Ralph's Barber Shop established his reputation, where for the price of a haircut each customer could voice his opinion on anything except how Ralph cut their hair. The barber shop flourished regardless of trends as patrons returned for Ralph's easy welcome and entertaining style, as evidenced by his loyal customer thru his many years in Stamford.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, the former Phyllis Tuccinardi, loving sons Ralph, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY and Alan of Darien and daughters-in-law Maria V of Brooklyn and Evan W. of Darien. His loss is mourned by his adoring grandchildren, Michael, Katharine, Samuel, Grace and Luke. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be remembered for his humor, his inimitable approach of life and his steadfast devotion to his family.

Friends may call at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, CT on Monday, February 18, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 10:30 AM. Interment immediately following at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien with full Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.

Dear Phyliss, Ralph & Alan,
Ralph has been far more than a dear friend to both my father and I. My father has always considered Ralph to be his closest friend. To me Ralph was my friend and mentor. He was my guiding light. The person who gave me my first opportunity to own my own shop. He taught me well and made me laugh. He quietly changed my life. We will miss him deeply. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad time.
