Richard Alan Colombo

RICHARD ALAN COLOMBO a longtime resident of Old Greenwich died at home on November 19, 2008. Richard is survived by his children Ben, Sarah and Will and his wife Molly. He is also survived by his mother Ernestina Colombo, his brother Francis Colombo, his sister-in-law Elizabeth and his niece Julia of Market Harborough, England. Richard was born and raised in London, England. He graduated from Cambridge University and after working for a decade as a statistician for the Office of Population, Censuses and Surveys he moved to New York where he received an MBA and PhD from Columbia. He was a dedicated professor who taught at Columbia, NYU and Yale as well as in India and China. For most of his career, he was a Professor of Marketing at Fordham University. His research was in the area of mathematical models. While at Fordham he was also Program Director for the Bert Twaalfhoven Center for Entrepreneurship. He was a director of the Old Greenwich Association and a volunteer for the American Statistical Association focusing on encouraging interest in statistics in schools. For more than three decades he and friends, the Feasters, met to enjoy great food and drink at their homes and at restaurants in various locations across the world. Richard valued family and good conversation. His intellectual curiosity was great and his kindness to children unbounded. He was a citizen of the world. A memorial gathering will be held at One Quintard Avenue in Old Greenwich on Saturday November 22nd at 3 PM. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
