Robert Deyber Obituary

Robert Deyber
09/20/2021
Robert Donald "Bob" Deyber, Jr., 66, led a storied life from the moment he was born on August 13, 1955 in Greenwich, CT until the day he died on September 20, 2021 in Roxbury, CT.
A visual raconteur, Bob was a storyteller with a paintbrush, his mind's eye planted deep within his subconscious, best known for his unique, visual interpretations of English sayings, idioms, euphemisms, cliches and Figures of Speech. It is the undecided tone between sincerity and irony that makes his visual vocabulary distinctly A Language All His Own, from literal translations of fanciful sayings to kitschy depictions of everyday terminology, showing off both his cultured brilliance and wicked sense of humor.
Bob is predeceased by his father Robert Donald Deyber, Sr. from Greenwich, CT. and his mother, Janice Miller Deyber from Superior, WI. He is survived by his husband, Robert Edward Graham; his sisters, Robbin Deyber Saul and Margot Deyber Wright; and brother, John Joseph Deyber; and his nieces and nephews, Matthew and Neil Saul, Logan and Carolyn Wright and Jonathan and Acadia Deyber. He is also survived by his in-laws, Peter and Connie Graham; his brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Dina Graham; and their children, Abby, Tyler, Katie; and Dina's sister, Dawn Petrucci.
Bob attended St. Mary Parochial School in Greenwich, CT; Bishop Verot High School in Ft. Myers, FL; St. Mary High School in Greenwich, CT; as well as University of Connecticut and New England College.
The adventurous life of Bob began in the travel industry working for International Weekends, Trans National Travel, Al Nippon Airways and finally America West. He resided in New York City, San Francisco, Boston, Perugia and Milan, Italy before his focus was redirected towards his artistic endeavors in the early 2000's beginning in Atlanta, GA.
Bob's talents and recognition as an internationally-collected, contemporary painter solidified quickly before moving to Litchfield County, CT. For the past fifteen years, his work has been, and still is, represented worldwide and published by Chalk & Vermilion Fine Arts and Martin Lawrence Galleries.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Bob's life on Saturday, October 23rd from noon to 5pm at the Spring Hill Vineyard, 292 Bee Brook Rd, New Preston, CT, 06777. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to "The Robert Deyber Foundation, Inc." PO Box 1547, Litchfield, CT 06759. The Robert Deyber Foundation Inc. was established to support multiple charities that embody the causes that Bob was passionate about, including Veterans, Animal Welfare and the Visual Arts.

John and Chris, Thank you for sharing that memory. We too have the honor of having one of Robert's pieces in our dining room. Appropriately enough, it is of a rabbit with flowing robes and a golden halo. What a wonderful talent and wit!

Not a day goes by that I don't think of Robert. The walls of my house are covered in his art work. Anytime someone comes to my house I play the game of what does this picture mean. He was so down to earth my husband and I always looked forward to seeing him at the Martin Lawrence Gallery in Las Vegas. He is truly missed.

Hi, I was looking at some stuff on ancestry this morning, and found this. Bobby was my cousin. My grandfather's youngest brothers son. I just can't believe this sad news. I've been wanting to get in touch with him for years, especially after my dad died in 2019. My name is Kari Deyber, so Bobby was my 2nd cousin. Many summers spent swimming in the pool on Dairy Rd. I will miss all the wonderful memories of him and my other cousins, his brothers and sisters, Robin, Margot and Johnny . Wish we had been able to reconnect again, but sadly this will not be the case, but will see you when we meet again. Please give hugs, kisses to all in heaven before you....GA, your mom and dad, my grandparents and now parents too, and all that have gone before.....I watch as you became an amazing artist, like your mom. Again I'm so sorry to hear this news, even though it's over 2 years ago....Robert(husband) iam truely sorry for your loss. My cousin was a great fun lovin guy, we had lots of fun together. Thinking of you. With my deepest sympathies. Kari Deyber(New Smyrna Beach, fl)

We only recently fell in love with Bob and his art while on a trip in Vegas March 2020 just as coronavirus was starting. We purchased 5 of his works that didn't get delivered for months as the world shut down. We also laughed when we realized that Bob was a New Englander and so are we. Growing up in Connecticut and living on Cape Cod since childhood it took a trip to Vegas to meet our neighbor through his art. We were looking forward to meeting him when the virus settled. Our deepest condolences to Bob's husband and family. We continue to purchase his beautiful, thoughtful and humorous pieces of art!

Found out about Robert Jr.'s passing from a Martin Lawrence auction catalogue. Had the opportunity to meet Bob at a signing in Schaumburg, Illinois at the gallery. I found him to be a most enjoyable person to talk with and greatly enjoy his play on words style. He told me as we discussed future projects that he does not use people as he did not have a grasp of skin color in doing faces. We will cherish his work that we have collected. Our sincerest condolences to his surviving family on this loss. With love and deep respect. Bourbonnais, Il

I am so saddened by your loss. I fell in love with his work when we were in San Francisco and will cherish the pieces I have hanging in our home. I only just found out of his passing.

Dear Robert,
I'm devastated to learn of your husband's passing. It was so nice and very special to have heard from him. I will always regret not trying to get together once we were vaccinated this spring.
Please give my condolences to his family - my thoughts are with them and with you. I'm so glad he found love.
Sincerely,
Claudia

Bob and I are cousins who literally grew up together in Greenwich in the 60s..Our moms, Janice & Ella, were best friends- and both families would beach at Todd's Point every day- or play on swings & skateboards in their vast 'weeping-willow decorated yard' on back country Dairy Road-a paradise for any kid..I echo cousin Jeff Miller's gratitude "Rob, Thanks for taking care of Bob all these years"..He leaves behind a beautiful legacy with his extraordinary paintings displayed prominently in galleries and homes all over the world, that I know his Mom, Janice , has been looking down on from Heaven with immense pride.. Bob & I had a wonderful 'catch-up' conversation about 4 years ago after he bared his heart in a Facebook post, in which we shared several verses of healing and love, namely Ephesians 2: 8,9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.'' and a favorite, Romans 8:38, 39 "NOTHING.....can separate us from His love"..After that last conversation, Bob replied: "You have no idea how your message brightened my day"..I dont even know where to start"..
