Robert Morris Obituary

Robert G. Morris
February 23, 2022
Robert G. Morris, affectionately known as Spider, passed away on February 23, 2022 after a brief illness. He is survived by his four loving children, Kerry, Kevin, Brian and Kate, brothers William (Bonnie), Patrick (Phyllis), and Clyde Morris and several nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Iona College in New Rochelle NY and served in the US Army 9th Infantry in Germany. Many Greenwich residents will remember his restaurant the Patio on the Post Road in Greenwich in the 1960's. He also served for many years as a USPS letter carrier in Riverside.
His greatest loves were his four children and the Brooklyn Dodgers.
He was a very proud member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed marching down Greenwich Avenue in his green beret every St. Patrick's Day Parade. He served as Grand Knight and was the founder of the annual Christmas Day Dinner for those who might otherwise be alone. He was always ready with a quick quip and had a charming Irish wit. His kindness and empathy knew no bounds.
The family would like to thank the staff of Parsonage Cottage, most especially Andee Cantavero, for providing Robert a warm and nurturing home during his final years.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Byram, CT.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Homes For the Brave in Bridgeport, CT.

One of the many great memories of my twenty five years in Greenwich was walking down The Avenue in the Saint Patrick's Day Parade with Bob Morris (and Pete Becker). Bob seemed to know something humorous about every single parade watcher and wasn't shy about voicing it. Of course, after the parade we retreated to The Knights where the merriment resumed. Those days will live on forever in the hearts of all who attended.

Bobby was a good friend of my husband, Phil. He was in our wedding party as an usher, April 23, 1960. We were living in Norwalk at the time when my husband was in college & Bobby's job at the time was repossesing cars & he needed someone to drive his car while he repossessed the other. I was available & helped him. Had good & fun memories from way back then. Phil & I lasted visited Bobby April 23, 2019 which was surprise for your Dad. Keep his memory alive with much love.

To the entire Morris clan; So sorry to hear of Spiders passing. I've had the pleasure of knowing him since our days at Iona and since have shared many great times, including playing for his Patio softball team. He was a great contributor to good causes, especially the K of C Chrismas dinner and always had a great story. Greenwich has lost another a good man.

Kerri, Kevin, Brian and Kate, Our thoughts and prayers are with All of you. God blessed Spider with a great long life and you have so many memories to share. Your Dad was a proud Irishman and an American Patriot that served his country & community. We all loved Spiders great wit and sense of humor. I loved Spider in so many ways, such an all around great guy. He was so proud of each of you and felt very blessed. He was a great friend and companion as we watched our boys play for the Crushers and Cardinals and of course Kate as our favorite cheerleader. Rest in peace my friend until we meet again.
