Scott Shaw Obituary

Scott Shaw
July 21, 1932- July 4, 2022
Scott Allison Shaw, 89, of New Canaan, CT, passed away on the morning of July 4th, 2022.
Scott was born in Washington, D.C. on July 21,1932; his parents were Charles Scott Shaw and Anita Howard Shaw. They moved to Leland, MS, when he was very young.
Scott's mother passed away when he was eight years old and he was lovingly raised by his stepmother, Birdie Mullican Shaw.
Scott went on to attend Georgia Tech, ROTC-Navy. Upon graduation from Georgia Tech in 1954, he became a commissioned officer, as a Lieutenant serving as a Navy Pilot.
Scott married his college sweetheart, Nancy Ramsey on October 9, 1954. After his 4 years of service in the Navy ended, Scott went on to attend Harvard Business School, graduating in 1960.
After graduation from HBS, Scott started working at IBM. Scott and Nancy and their two children moved several times before becoming long-term residents of Chappaqua, NY.
Scott was a very athletic man and enjoyed competitive tennis, hiking, biking, skiing, running, swimming and diving. He was ahead of his time in his dedication to physical fitness which became a lifelong hobby. Well before anyone else in Chappaqua was running, Scott could be found running long distances throughout town and then stopping by the local playground to do calisthenics. He skied until his late 70s and played competitive tennis until he was 85 years old.
Later in life, when he could no longer play competitive tennis, he took up playing pool and of course became a pool shark, beating anyone who played him.
Scott and Nancy lived in Paris, France, for four years from 1978-1982. Scott worked at IBM at La Defense. During their time in Paris, Scott took his beloved Newfoundland "Pooh" to the Bois de Boulogne for daily walks.
Scott had a 30-year career at IBM and after retiring from IBM, he worked as a consultant for IBM in Jakarta, Indonesia. Later in retirement he became a master antique furniture restoration expert. Scott and Nancy traveled extensively and they visited all 50 states.
Scott was a very disciplined and principled man. He will be remembered for his intelligence, vast vocabulary, and his very dry, witty sense of humor. Scott was a loving and loyal husband to Nancy. He was a wonderful and loving father to his children, setting an example to his children to be independent and resourceful.
Scott was very proud to be a Navy Veteran and loved being an American. We will love him forever and miss him dearly.
Scott was predeceased by his son, Kelly Scott Shaw.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nancy Shaw; his daughter, Allyson Kates (Ken) of Greenwich, CT; his five grandchildren, Eleanor Shaw (Ryan Doughtery), Alexandra Shaw (Austin Dabney), Meredith Karin (John), Kristina Anderson (Burke), Andrew Kates; his great-grandson, Theodore Karin, his brother, Charles Shaw (Clay Sterling); and sister, Sheila Shaw (Penn Phillips-Price).
We would like to thank Waveny LifeCare Network for taking such good care of Scott for the last 2 years. Scott really enjoyed the Therapeutic Recreation programs, the interfaith religious services and the family-like atmosphere.
