Kathleen Benish Obituary

Kathleen Ruth Benish (Gaydos/Lampi), age 92, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025, in Green Valley, AZ. Born on April 1, 1933, in Kenosha, WI, Kathleen lived a long and fulfilling life marked by curiosity, community involvement, and a deep appreciation for the world around her. During her first marriage and after the subsequent divorce in Wisconsin, she raised four children by herself, with some initial help from her parents. She remarried in 1971 to Robert Benish and began a new journey that ultimately took her on adventures throughout the world including a 15-year residence in Costa Rica. She and Bob later moved to Green Valley, AZ, where they settled down and established a great circle of caring friends.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert and her brother, Steve. She is lovingly remembered by her brother, Donald Gaydos (Mary); sister-in-law, Anne Gaydos; her children, John (Rachel), Lisa (Kai Cheong), Michael (Kate), and Kurt (Janie); her stepchildren, Richard, Charles, and Tamara; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought joy to her later years.
Throughout her life, Kathleen embraced a wide range of interests that reflected her vibrant spirit. She was an avid traveler who found joy in discovering new places and cultures. Her love of reading enriched both her personal life and conversations with those around her. Kathleen also enjoyed swimming and hiking activities that kept her connected to nature and wellness. She was active in local social clubs and had a passion for theater, often attending performances that inspired thoughtful reflection and lively discussion. A generous supporter of charitable causes, she gave back to the community in meaningful ways.
Kathleen's legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with kindness, wisdom, and warmth. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her. Her celebration of life will be held at La Posada in Green Valley, AZ, later this year.
