Robert Flemming Obituary

Robert William Flemming
December 28, 1935 - October 20, 2024
Robert "Bob" William Flemming, age 88, passed away peacefully near his home in Green Valley, AZ on October 20, 2024.
Bob was born in Allentown, PA to Robert and Charlotte Burchill Flemming on December 28, 1935. Bob was a boy scout and graduated from Allentown High School in 1954. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the destroyer USS Charles P. Cecil. He was honorably discharged after four years of service.
Bob joined the Western Electric company and while the company underwent many changes, he worked in the same building loyally for 40 years before retiring from Lucent Technologies.
Bob and his wife Susan relocated to Arizona in 2002, where he embraced his love of golf, warm weather, and University of Arizona athletics.
Bob committed himself to his communities throughout his life. While living in Allentown, Bob volunteered at the First Presbyterian Church managing the sound system and coached baseball at the Lower Macungie youth center. In Green Valley, Bob was a volunteer docent at the Titan Missile Museum and a volunteer at Green Valley Recreation.
Bob loved sailing, especially in the Chesapeake Bay. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers. In Arizona, Bob loved driving his red Corvette.
Bob is predeceased by his parents; first wife, Jean Mauer; brother, James Flemming; and sister, Joyce Collins. He is survived by his wife, Susan Feldman Flemming; children, Cynthia, William, Frances, Paul, and Amy; stepchildren, Steven, Roger, and Eileen; as well as nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Bob was beloved by his family, friends, and communities across Pennsylvania, Arizona, and elsewhere.
There will be a celebration of life for Bob in Green Valley, Arizona (details to be announced) and an interment of Bob's ashes in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

I knew Bob as a friendly, fun loving and considerate person who unknowingly influenced me with his friendship. Some forty plus years ago Bob invited me to go saiing with him. On a small lake in his 14' sailboat he passed on to me his passion and knowledge of the sport that is still with me today. Over the years of owning three different sized sailboats there was rarely a day on the water when I didn't think of him and privately thank him for taking the time to touch my life. I will always remember his kindness and gentle demeaner and feel blessed for having knowing such a caring and quality person.

Remembering: The camping vacations as a kid in the 1960's. Five kids and a pop-up camper. That was dedication to his family. Watching him race his "Force Five" sailboat on leasure lake. The two of us spending a weekend sailing on the chesapeake bay with the boat clubs yacht. Helping each other with home projects, most turning out good. Sharing a "B1 Bomber burger" with him for lunch at the air museum in Arizona. My wife and I spending vacation with Dad and Susan in Puerto Vallarta. So many more memories that will live on.
The best memory was knowing if I needed him he would be there, no matter what.
We love you Dad, and miss you. Skip & Cyndi
