Sara Seanor Obituary

In her life full of travels, Sara Seanor, daughter of Raymond and Ruth Spires of Columbia, SC, was a loving wife, mother, volunteer, White House employee, and Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Sara had a life that many of us can only dream of. Sara Seanor was selected as one of two women from the state of South Carolina to join the new women's Air Force, which was later to become the United States Air Force. During her time in the women's Air Force Sara obtained the rank of Sergeant in the Air Force. This is also where she met the love of her life, Joseph C. Seanor, Jr. Her life later journeyed onto another path that led her to her first of many encounters with the then Governor of Georgia, Jimmy Carter. Sara at that time worked as a volunteer at the Georgia Regional Hospital of Atlanta where she developed a token store for the patients of the hospital. Sara was also known to have a talent for getting donations for their program and for working as many hours as most full-time employees. Her next journey led her to Washington, DC where she was asked to become a volunteer for the Jimmy Carter presidential campaign by Roslyn Carter. When the election was won, Sara was asked again by the Carters to become an employee in the White House working for the now President Jimmy Carter. Her first assignment in the White House was working for Dr. Peter Bourne who was selected as the President's adviser for drug policy. During that time Sara had the fortunate opportunity to meet with many famous individuals as it was the duty of that office to help bring attention to the issues of drugs in the United States. During this time she had the fortune to meet such famous individuals as Tom Jones, Muhammad Ali, Eddie Albert, Shaun Cassidy, and a host of other famous celebrities. During her next assignment in the White House she was asked to become the Executive Assistant to the President's adviser on Jewish affairs, Mr. Ed Sanders. This marks one of the highlights of her time in the White House due to her many exciting adventures she had during this time. One of these being that she was chosen to attend Golda Meir's funeral over in Israel as part of the White House delegation. She was then selected to be a member of the Holocaust Museum commission to help develop the Holocaust Museum located in Washington, DC. Mrs. Sara Seanor, 78, died December 1, 2007 from complications related to leukemia. The memorial service will be held at St. Mary's and Martha's of Bethany at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2007. In addition to her husband, Colonel Joseph C. Seanor Jr., she is survived by daughters, Pattie Bell and Jane Pulliam, and son, Joseph C. Seanor III, and her 7 grandchildren. She also is survived by her brother Travis Spires and sisters, Faye Elkins and Lena Carman. Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel 770-945-6924 www.hamiltonmillchapel.com
