John Allen Roberts, age 74, of Warsaw, and formerly of Huntington, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Roberts was born on Aug. 18, 1947, in Bluffton, Indiana, to Ralph and Mary (Bedwell) Roberts. His parents preceded him in death. He married Delores Drerup on June 27, 1970, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington. She survives and resides in Warsaw.
Mr. Roberts was a 1965 graduate of Montpelier High School. He received his B.A. from Ball State University in 1974 and a M.A. from St. Francis College. John served in the United States Air Force as a fuel system mechanic from 1965-69 during the Vietnam conflict. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal while serving his country. Mr. Roberts was a fine arts teacher at Whitko for three years and then taught and was head of the department for 27 years at Columbia City Joint High School. He was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a current member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw. He was also a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
Along with his wife, Delores, John is survived by three daughters, Jennifer (Kevin) Campbell, Huntington, IN, Lisa (Troy) Lephart, Muncie, IN, Carolyn (Kraig) Borders, Elkhart, IN; one brother, Max Coffield, Huntington, IN; one sister, Mary Kay (Roger) Strine, Hartford City, IN; 7 grandchildren, Travis Campbell, Brandy Campbell, both of Huntington, IN; Chase Lephart, Jacob Lephart, Ryleigh Lephart, all of Muncie, IN; and Brynlee Borders, Lily Borders, both of Elkhart, IN.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Coffield, Raymond Coffield and Ralph "Jay" Coffield.
A Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 3:30 p.m., on Monday, April 25, followed by the calling hours from 4-7 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington.
Additional calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 26, from 9-10 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, with Fr. Thomas Zehr officiating.
A burial with Military Honors will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Huntington.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to either of the following, St. Mary Catholic Church, Disabled American Veterans or the Heart Institute Fund at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.

I am so sorry for your loss! John, in a very short time, became a good friend. It was so sad to him struggling to get his breath. It is much better, now that we know he is ok. I love you friend!
