Mama,
It's been a year since I've heard your voice, and each day that goes by without you here reminds me of just how much I took for granted that you would be here for so many more years to come.
Little things bring me to my knees--a song, a scent, a memory. Life is so different now that I can't just pick up the phone and chat for a few minutes (or a few hours). I think I miss that most.
Your kindness, your selflessness, your gentle spirit. . . these are the things I carry with me every day. I miss you so much more than I could possibly begin to describe.
I'm lighting this candle for you on this one year 'anniversary'. It seems appropriate that, this year, we also observe Memorial Day today.
I'll leave here with something I saw shortly after losing you. . . it spoke of the all encompassing grief I have felt since that moment-- "Her absence is like the sky, covering everything". No corner of my life has gone untouched by the loss of not just my beloved mama, but my best friend.
