News Death Notice

RIEGEL, Carolyn S. 84, died on Thursday, November 5 at Woodland County Manor. Born on September 4, 1931 to O.C. and Helen (Kahliher) Kohli in Lima, Ohio. An accomplished writer, pianist, and singer, she attended Miami University, graduating in 1953 with a degree in English (Journalism emphasis). After graduation, Carolyn took a job with the Hamilton Journal News, where she worked with fellow reporter Sol D. Riegel, whom she had met at Miami. They married in 1955 and lived in Hamilton, Columbus, and Oxford. Following Sol's untimely death in 1972, Carolyn worked for the Hamilton Journal News, The Oxford Press, and at the News Bureau at Miami University, where she edited The Miamian, as well as the weekly Report. After retirement she was an active volunteer for the McCullough-Hyde Hospital Auxiliary. Selflessly devoted to her three musical children, Carolyn provided them with music lessons and instruments, subscribing yearly to Miami's Artist Series, taking them to Cincinnati for concerts, and making sure that they had excellent educational opportunities. She is survived by her daughter Jane (George) Ferencz of Whitewater, WI, her son John (Turid) Riegel of Columbus, OH, and her sister, Nancy Nordstrom of Columbus, OH, as well as a niece, a nephew, cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sol, and her daughter Nancy. The family would like to thank those who helped to care for Carolyn in her later years, including Dr. Brent Bader, Holly and Tom Wissing, Linda Willeford, and Linda and Rick Cole. We would especially like to thank the staff at Woodland Country Manor for your love and kindness in caring for our mom. At Carolyn's request, there will be no funeral.
