Clyde DENNIS Obituary


News Death Notice

DENNIS, Clyde H. 94, formerly of Middletown, died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Otterbein Retirement Community in Lebanon where he had resided for eleven years. He was born August 2, 1918 in Nada, Powell County, Kentucky, the eighth of nine children of Robert Hickman Dennis and Junie Lee Sexton Dennis and was the last survivor of his family. His siblings included Myrtle (Floyd) Martin, Maude (Ernest) Guinn, Chester (Hazel) Dennis, Raymond (Rose) Dennis, Robert (Blanche) Dennis, Russell (Ruth) Dennis and brothers Victor and Vernie who died in childhood. His wife of 63 years, Onnolee Millisor Dennis died in 2006. He retired from AT&T, formerly Ohio Bell Telephone Company, in 1978. He was a member of Jefferson Lodge #90 F&AM for more than 50 years, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, and a Life Member of Middletown Elks Lodge #257. Until his health failed him he was a volunteer at the Thrift Shop at Otterbein. He was a veteran of World War II having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. One of his proudest accomplishments was being a member of the Middletown High School football team of 1936 which was undefeated and not scored on the entire season, and he loved to relate the story to all who would listen. He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Nelson) Bailey of Monroe, his son, Don "Seth" (Rita) Dennis of Clearwater, Florida, grandchildren, Tim Bailey, Lori (Jason) Curry, and Sarah Dennis, and three great grandchildren, Melissa Bailey and Lucinda and Atticus Curry, as well as his sister-in-law and good friend, Blanche Dennis, and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation and private services will be at the convenience of the family. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the charity of one's choice. Don, Rita, Susan and Family,
I was very saddened to hear about your Father's passing. I know he will be greatly missed. I am sure it was difficult for him since your Mom passed away! Know that I have a lot of fond memories , not only of your Dad but your Mother also. What fantastic people they were and they will alway's hold a special place in my heart !
