News Death Notice

MONNIN, Daniel Michael On Friday, August 20, 2010, time stood still and we lost a remarkable young man at such a young age. Daniel Monnin died while having fun with his buddies diving off a cliff and swimming at an abandoned rock quarry. He had just turned 21 and was pursuing his dream of becoming a police officer. He had received his Associate's degree in criminal justice from Columbus State and had gotten his first job as a corrections officer at West Central Corrections Community in Marysville, Ohio. His goal was to attend OU in the spring to get his Bachelor's degree and then to become a full-time police officer. During his two years at Columbus State, Daniel was on the dean's list each quarter, something that he and his parents were very proud of. Daniel loved to play baseball and he was an awesome catcher. He played at WSLL and when he was 10, they won the state tournament. When he was 12, they lost a heart-breaker up at Eaton in the finals, coming in second. That year he also played for the Millville Lightning, and they won the 12-year-old Cal Ripkin state tournament. With hopes of having a great senior year in baseball, Daniel discovered he had a torn labrum. After the operation to repair the tear, his ability to throw a baseball was gone for his senior year. Daniel loved his grandma and she loved him. He always called her Irene, which just tickled her. He also loved Granny and PaPaw in Texas. He used to call them up to talk about how great the Reds were when the Astros lost. Daniel loved his girlfriend Meagan Webb. If you saw Daniel, Meagan was not far behind; they were like two peas in a pod. And last but not least, Daniel loved his brother David, and David idolized him. They were five years apart, but were very close and talked often. We would like to thank Coaches Timmy Reed and Joe Bowling; Daniel thought the world of you and so do we. We would also like to thank Mrs. Tom Kuhl who used to tutor Daniel when he was in high school; he also thought the world of you! Daniel loved the Lord, which he found through his mother Susan and his grandma, and it is because of this love we know Daniel is with God and suffering no more. He is survived by his parents, Steve and Susan Monnin; brother, David Monnin; grandmother, Marilyn Monnin; grandparents, Jim and Joan Berry; girlfriend, Meagan Webb; aunts and uncles, Aunt Vicky (Monnin) and James Weyer, Aunt Dianne (Monnin) and Scott Coon, Uncle Todd and Christy Monnin, Uncle Jeff and Darlene Monnin, Uncle Chris and Kathy Monnin, Aunt Karen and Jimmy Rose, and Uncle Ricky and Christy Berry; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Norbert Monnin. Funeral Services will be held at Fairfield Church of Christ, 745 Symmes Road, Fairfield, Ohio 45014 on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 10am with David Hargrave, Minister and Pastor Curtis Moak officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the Hamilton Freshman School, 2260 NW Washington Boulevard, Hamilton, Ohio 45013 on Monday, August 23, 2010 from 4 to 8pm.
