Family-Placed Obituary

HANN, Harry Nicholas Harry Nicholas Hann, of London, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at home. He was born March 27, 1925, in Batavia, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Clara (Brucher) Hann, graduating from Batavia High School in 1943 and joined the Marine Corps following graduation. Harry served as a 2nd Lieutenant in China during World War II, and as a 1st Lieutenant in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He earned his B.A. and M.A. in Education from Miami University in Oxford. On November 24, 1948, he married Helen Corless in Greenfield, Ohio. He is survived by Helen, his wife of 55 years; sons, Joe (Dorothy) Hann, Dan (Paula) Hann, both of London and Chuck (Tari) Hann of Mt. Sterling; four grandchildren, Davie (Beth) Hann of Fairborn, Mike Hann of South Solon, Amy Hann of London and Sarah Hann of Mt. Sterling; two great-grandsons, Nicholas and Jacob Hann of Fairborn; sister, Marjorie Benedetto of Hot Springs, Arkansas and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ben and Melvin Hann and granddaughter-in law, Kristey Hann. Harry was involved in education throughout his life. He taught at Bainbridge High School in Ross County, Ohio, Morgan High School and Fairfield Local Schools in Butler County, Ohio and spent two years as Director of Attendance for Butler County Schools. He opened Fairfield North Elementary as its first principal in 1955 and continued to serve Fairfield City Schools as Administrative Assistant, Assistant Superintendent and Acting Superintendent until his retirement in 1981. He was a past President of Butler County Retired Teachers Association, and Butler County School Masters Club, a life member of the National Education Association, National Elementary Principals Association and Butler county Retired School Teachers. He belonged to the Buckeye School Administrators Association, Kappa Phi Kappa Education Fraternity, Fairfield Civitan Club, Fairfield Safety Council and Board of Managers for the Fairfield YMCA. After moving to Madison County in 1989, Harry became active in Madison County Retired Teachers, and the Range Township Grange. Harry was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, a loving husband, and a devoted father and grandfather. Friends may call at the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME, London, Sunday, June 27, 2004, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A vigil service will take place at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Ted Sill on Monday, June 28, 2004, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Church. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Donations in Harry's memory may be made to the Scholarship Fund of Butler County Retired Teachers or Madison County Retired Teachers.
